EMU AT SYRACUSE FOR FIRST OF NINE ROAD TILTS: The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team will become “Road Warriors” as it hits the road for a Tuesday, Nov. 29, matchup at Syracuse University. That EMU-Syracuse tilt will be the first of nine consecutive games the Eagles play away from the friendly confines of the Convocation Center.

STRONG SYRACUSE CONNECTION: When EMU takes on Syracuse Tuesday, Nov. 29, it will be a homecoming for several members of the Eagles' basketball staff.

First-year Head Coach Rob Murphy was an assistant coach at Syracuse University for the previous seven seasons.  Victoria Sun, who serves as the director of basketball operations, is a 1997 graduate of Syracuse and director of player development/asst. sports performance coach Jake Presutti played basketball at Syracuse and was also a graduate men's basketball manager for the Orange.

NATIONALLY RANKED: Syracuse enters Tuesday's, Nov. 29, game ranked 3rd in the coaches poll and fourth in the AP poll nationally with a 6-0 record.

GOOD VIBRATIONS AT SYRACUSE: The EMU men's basketball program has had good results on trips to Syracuse, N.Y.  The Eagles and Orange have met just once, with EMU recording a 68-65 win, Dec. 14, 1996, in the championship game of the Carrier Classic in the Carrier Dome.  That title was one of two in-season tournament crowns the Eagles captured that year . EMU also captured the Hawaii-Hilo Classic during the season. In addition to that Carrier Classic title in the Carrier Dome EMU also played in that facility in the first round of the 1997 NCAA Tournament.  Eastern beat Mississippi State, 76-56, in the first round and followed that up with a 71-68 overtime win over Penn State in the second round, advancing to the Meadowlands in the Sweet 16 round. North Carolina ended EMU's tournament run, 93-67.

FAST START FOR MURPHY: The Rob Murphy Era of Eastern Michigan University men's basketball opened successfully as the Eagles downed the University of Illinois-Chicago Flames, 68-57, Friday, Nov. 11, in the Convocation Center. The Eagles rallied from six-points down in the second half to record the win. The Eagles are currently 4-2 under Murphy's leadership.

SIMS GETS THE NOD: When starting guard Derek Thompson (Detroit, Mich.-Melvindale-SEMO) was sidelined with a sprained ankle two games ago, redshirt sophomore J.R. Sims (Fort Wayne, Ind.-Snider) was inserted into the starting lineup and he has responded with two double-digit scoring efforts, tallying 12 points with seven rebounds against Rochester, Nov. 23, and leading the Eagles with 14 points versus Michigan State, Nov. 27.

FIRST ACTION: Freshman point guard Antoine Chandler (Windsor, Ontario, Canada-Herman Secondary) saw his first action of the season Wednesday, Nov. 23, against Rochester College and he responded with two points and three steals in seven minutes.

LAMPLEY NAMED MAC WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK: EMU senior guard Darrell Lampley (Linden, N.J.-Linden-Lakeland C.C.) was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week for Nov. 21, 2011.  Lampley led the Eagles in scoring in three games last week, including a career-best 21 in a 62-51 win over Arkansas-Little Rock, Nov. 18.  He had 16 in a 66-64 win at IUPUI, Nov. 20, and 15 in a 66-49 loss at Texas Southern. Lampley averaged 33.7 minutes a game in those three outings.

FOR THE 115th TIME: The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team kicked off its 115th season of competition Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, when the Eagles posted a 68-57 win over the Flames of the University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) in a 7 p.m. game in the Convocation Center. Eastern played its first season in 1897-98 and split games with Detroit, losing a 2-0 decision before coming back for a 4-0 victory.  The Eagles are are 67-48 in season openers.

38th MAC SEASON: The 2011-12 season will also be the 38th for the Eagles in the Mid-American Conference. The first year of MAC play for EMU was  1974-75 when the then-Hurons went 12-14 overall and 4-9 in league play.

EMU has won three Mid-American Conference titles: 1987-88, 1990-91, and 1995-96, and the Green and White captured MAC Tournament crowns in all three of those years in addition to winning the tournament title in 1997-98.

EAGLES SET FOR TWO IN-SEASON TOURNAMENTS: The 2011-12 EMU men's basketball team will have two in-season tournaments during the regular season.
