EAGLES HIT THE ROAD FOR THE FIRST OF FIVE STRAIGHT: The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team returns to the road for a five-game road swing through the states of Wisconsin, Illinois, New York and Michigan, Nov. 18-Dec. 3. The Eagles' first stop is Friday, Nov. 18, in Green Bay, Wis. against the 23rd-ranked Phoenix of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Following the contest, EMU makes a stop in Chicago, Ill. Sunday, Nov. 20, for a tilt versus Loyola University.
The Eagles are looking to remain perfect on the young season after a blistering 110-31 victory over Marygrove College Monday, Nov. 14, at the Convocation Center. Meanwhile, the Phoenix are 2-0 on the year after cruising past North Dakota State University, 82-59, Nov. 11, and upending the University of Toledo, 84-68, Nov. 16.

ALL-TIME VERSUS THE PHOENIX: This is the fifth meeting between the Eagles and the Phoenix, with Green Bay having won all four previous contests. The last meeting between the two schools occurred just last season in Ypsilanti, as Green Bay ran away with a 68-44 victory at the EMU Convocation Center, Dec. 6, 2010. Eastern made just 14.7 percent of its shots from the field in the first 20 minutes to fall behind, 40-14, at the half to the Phoenix, who entered the game ranked 21st in the nation. The Eagles managed to rally in the second half, cutting the deficit to 16, 56-40, with 4:54 left, but the Green and White would get no closer in the final stages of the game. EMU had three players in double figures, led by Paige Redditt with 12 points, Sydney Huntley with 11 and Cassie Schrock with 10.

TOP-25 OPPOSITION AND THE EAGLES: For the first time this season, Eastern Michigan will square off against a ranked team when it tangles with No. 24 Green Bay, Nov. 18. In the program's 36 years, EMU has never knocked off a ranked opponent, posting an 0-12 record. For complete EMU results versus ranked teams, turn to page five of these notes.

EMU VERSUS THE HORIZON LEAGUE: Eastern is 48-33 all-time versus the Indianapolis, Ind. based conference, having played against all 10 member institutions. EMU has faced the University of Detroit Mercy more times than any other league member, with the Titans holding an 12-8 lead in the series.

LOYOLA ON THE HORIZON: The Eagles and Ramblers will square off for the sixth time with Eastern Michigan holding a 4-1 advantage in the all-time series. The meeting is just the second since 1998, as the Eagles notched an 82-64 victory in the 2010-11 season opener in Ypsilanti, Nov. 12. Loyola won the first meeting to open the series in 1989 before EMU notched wins in 1990, 1997, 1998 and 2010.

JAMES' MARCH TOWARDS HISTORY: Tavelyn James needs just 117 points to pass Laurie Byrd for the EMU all-time career scoring record. James has 1,783 points, while Byrd notched 1,899 points from 1978-82.

110 IS THE SCHOOL'S RECORD FOR POINTS IN A GAME: EMU's 110 points against Marygrove College, Nov. 14, was the school record for most points in a single game. The previous standard of 108 was originally set against Temple Baptist, Nov. 11, 2007, and against  Rochester, Dec. 9, 2009. In addition, the Mustangs' 31 points are tied for the fourth-lowest amount of points allowed by an EMU squad in the 36-year history of the program.
Other records set against Marygrove were: most field goal attempts at the Convocation Center (83); most points scored in a game (110); most points in a half by an Eastern player (James, 32); and most points scored in a half (72).

STOP, THIEF!: In the victory over USCAA foe Marygrove, Nov. 14, EMU racked up 26 steals, which is tied for the third-best effort in team history. Five seasons ago, versus NCCAA member Temple Baptist (11-11-07), the Eagles stole the rock a record 29 times.

PITCHING THE SHUTOUT: Typically a term reserved more for EMU Baseball Head Coach Jay Alexander's team, the Eagles pitched a shutout of their own versus Marygove, Nov. 14. The Mustangs did not pick up their first field goal until 8:55 to go in the stanza to make it 41-2. The 11:05 scoring drought is the longest since EMU held Rochester College without a score for 10 minutes and 54 seconds, Dec. 9, 2009.

A LOOK INSIDE THE SPECIALTY STATS: The Eagles are averaging 57.0 points per game in the paint, 24.0 points off the bench, 42.0 points per game off turnovers, 21.5 second-chance points and 25.0 fast break points per game.

ALLOWING 50 OR LESS: Eastern Michigan is 89-0 all time when allowing 50 points or less. Since 2003-04, the Green and White has accomplished the feat 44 times with 21 of those coming against Mid-American Conference foes.

MAGIC NUMBERS: In Head Coach AnnMarie Gilbert's tenure, when two particular numbers on the scoreboard are achieved it typically has been a sign of an EMU win. When the Eagles have scored at least 70 points, their record is 41-10, including winning their last 19 games, while when they hold opponents under 70 points, their record is 64-21.
Under Gilbert's leadership, Eastern Michigan is 60-11 when leading at the half and 65-3 when holding a lead with five minutes to play in the game.

EMU AND THE HOME OPENER: The Nov. 14 home opener versus Marygrove marked the 14th season of EMU women's basketball at the Convocation Center. The Eagles are 12-2 all-time in season openers at the Convo, including winning the last 12 home lid lifters dating back to a 79-53 victory over Chicago State University, Nov. 17, 2000. During the winning streak, EMU is winning the home opener by an average of 39 points (EMU 86.9, OPP 48.0).

BEST TEAM IN WASHTENAW COUNTY?: The combined efforts between AnnMarie Gilbert and Suzy Merchant have quietly built Eastern Michigan into one of the most dominant teams in the state of Michigan. Since the 2003-04 campaign, the Eagles have won 155 games, posted five 20+ victory seasons and made five postseason tournament appearances.

ALL-TIME AGAINST NON-DIVISION I COMPETITION: The Marygrove contest marked the second regular season meeting between EMU and Marygrove. The Eagles are 14-2 all-time against non-NCAA Division I foes.

DOUBLE VISION: In just 98 games during her brief career, Tavelyn James has reached double figures in points on 81 occasions. The Detroit native has scored 20 or more in 37 of those contests. Given her current pace of 18.0 points per game, James is on pace to become the leading scorer in the program's 36-year history.

GET THAT SHOT OUTTA HERE: Senior forward Paige Redditt recorded a blocked shot Monday, Nov. 18, in the win over Marygrove. She upped her career total to 90 and currently stands in third place on the EMU all-time list. Redditt needs 13 more rejections to pass Stephanie Smiley for second all-time. Smiley tallied 103 rejections for Eastern from 1998-2002.

HOME COURT ADVANTAGE: Eastern Michigan is 1-0 at the Convocation Center this season. The Eagles have won 26 of the last 34 home games dating back to the 2008-09 campaign. Eastern Michigan has racked up a solid home-court advantage inside the friendly confines of the Convocation Center since the doors opened during the 1998-99 campaign. The Green and White has won 69.4 percent of the contests played in the building, racking up a 120-53 all-time mark.

JAMES NAMED MAC WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Senior guard Tavelyn James was named the Mid-American Conference Women's Basketball West Division Player of the Week, the conference office announced Nov. 14. It marks the third time she has won the award in her career.
James set the single-game standard for points in a game with 42 in the Eagles' 83-53 victory over Northeastern University, Nov. 11. The Detroit, Mich. native had previously set the EMU single-game record with a pair of 40-point efforts in wins over Buffalo (Feb. 3, 2010) and Toledo (March 2, 2010).
