YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team dropped the Toledo Rockets in a Mid-American Conference match Friday, Oct. 7, at the Convocation Center. Despite heading into extra points in the opening set, the Eagles took the match with relative ease in straight sets (26-24, 25-7, 25-16).

EMU now moves to 14-6 (2-3 MAC), while Toledo falls to 6-11 (1-4 MAC).

Rachel Iaquaniello (Plymouth, Mich.-Dearborn Divine Child) paced the EMU offense with 14 kills and a .333 attack percentage (14-2-36), while Megan Crawshaw (Mattawan, Mich.-Mattawan) was the defensive force for the Eagles with five total blocks.  Ashley Mason (Eastlake, Ohio-Lake Catholic) led the match with 30 assists, while Haley Stein (Carleton, Mich.-Monroe St. Mary's Catholic Central) led Eastern with 10 digs.

Eastern took the opening set in extra points, 26-24. The Eagles rode their three service aces in the opening frame, including two from Erin Short (Orrville, Ohio-Orrville). Baker led the Green and White with four kills in the first set, while Paige Roback (Maumee, Ohio-Notre Dame Academy) and Iaquaniello each had three kills. Mason picked up 12 assists in the opening frame and defensively, Baker had a pair of block assists.

The Eagles made quick work of the Rockets in the second set, giving them a 2-0 lead heading into half time. Eastern used a .360 attack percentage with Baker leading the way with five kills, while Iaquaniello picked up four of her own. Crawshaw was a force at the net defensively in the set coming up with four total blocks in the 25-7 set victory.

Iaquaniello's .462 attack percentage (7-1-13) led the Eagles in the final frame of the match, while Roback, Short and Kaitlyn Vincek (South Lyon, Mich.-South Lyon) chipped in with two kills apiece. Eastern used a .256 attack percentage in the final set en route to the 25-16 final, giving EMU the straight set win.

The Eagles will continue MAC action Saturday, Oct. 8, when they host MAC East Division foe Ball State University in the Convocation Center. The match is set for 7 p.m.
