Golf Wraps Up Fall Campaign with a Second Place Showing

Junior Meredith Fairbairn ties for fourth place with a four-over 220 (72-73-75)
FORT MYERS, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team capped off a successful fall season with a runner-up showing at the 34th Annual Pat Bradley Invitational on the par-72, 6,239-yard Pelican Preserve Golf Club course. Junior Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada-Westside Secondary School) led the way for the Eagles, firing a four-over par 220 (72-73-75) to finish tied for fourth place. The top-five showing was the first of Fairbairn's career and her 54-hole total is also tied for the 10th lowest cumulative total in program-history.
Host Florida International shot a final round 390 Tuesday, Oct. 25, for a three-day score of 882 strokes for first place. North Texas was third with a 903 (301-303-299) followed by Boston College (300-305-305=909) and Stetson (305-297-313=915).
All told, three of the six players in the EMU lineup finished inside the top-10. Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada-Richmond Hill) closed with a final round 77 for a total of 223 (74-72-77) in eighth place, one shot ahead of Sarah Johnson(Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) in ninth place with 224 (79-72-73). With a 233 (77-75-81), Rushda Mallick (Cape Town, South Africa-Glenwood House-Cape Peninsula University of Technology) finished Tuesday in a tie for 26th. Rounding out the lineup, Shannon Warner (Livonia, Mich.-Livonia Churchill-Michigan State) tied for 35th with a 235 (81-78-76).
Competing as an individual, sophomore Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) fired rounds of 79, 79 and 75 for a share of 26th.
The tournament marked the last one of the fall for the Eagles. The spring campaign gets under way in February when the squad travels to Victoria, Texas to compete in the Claud Jacobs Challenge, Feb. 19-20.
