YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan volleyball squad continues its 2011 schedule with a pair of Mid-American Conference matches this weekend. Eastern opens up with a 7 p.m. match at the Convocation Center when it takes on the Bufallo Bulls Friday, Oct. 21. After the Eagles match with Buffalo, they continue with another home match against the Akron Zips at the Convocation Center. First serve is set for 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22.
BACK ON TRACK: After dropping four-of-five matches, the Eagles have returned back to their winning ways by taking four straight Mid-American Conference matches. Most recently, Eastern topped the RedHawks of Miami in straight sets Friday, Oct. 14, and continued its stellar play, Saturday, Oct. 15, when they handed the Bowling Green State Falcons a 3-0 loss for a fourth straight win in MAC competition. EMU looks to make it six-in-a-row this weekend when it plays host in a pair of MAC matches.
ALL-TIME VERSUS THIS WEEK'S FIELD: The Eagles open up the weeked with a Mid-American Conference match at home against the Buffalo Bulls. EMU has dominated in its history with Buffalo, going 14-1. Eastern is looking to win their second straight match against Buffalo with its last loss to the Bulls coming on Oct. 24, 2009 when the Green and White fell by a score of 3-1. Eastern is looking to take their 15th match ever at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21.
Following its match with the Bulls, the Green and White will continue its five-match homestand with the Akron Zips Saturday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. Eastern is just 13-17 all-time against the Zips. Akron has taken two of the last three matches, with all three decided in five sets. The Eagles look to take their second in-a-row over the Zips as they dropped Akron on the road, 3-2, in the 2010 campaign.
THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS: The Eagles take on two Mid-American Conference teams that are struggling to win matches this season: the Buffalo Bulls and the Akron Zips.
Buffalo is the first of Eastern's opponents this weekend. The Bulls are 9-13 (2-6 MAC) after dropping their last four MAC matches. Buffalo's last victory came against Bowling Green Saturday, Oct. 1, when they won 3-2 on the road. Most recently, the Falcons have dropped four straight to Kent State, Ohio, Western Michigan and Northern Illinois at home. The Bulls have struggled on the road so far this season, going 3-5.
