Second round suspended due to darkness; will be completed Monday morning
Complete Results.
SKOKIE, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) – Three Eagles tallied career-best scores in the opening round Sunday, Oct. 16, of the 15th Windon Memorial Classic at Evanston Golf Club. As a team, the Eastern Michigan University golf team is in the middle of pack at the 17-team event after one day of play. Darkness fell before all groups could complete the scheduled 36 holes; the second round will be completed Monday, Oct. 17, morning.
EMU concluded the opening 18 holes at five-under 27, one stroke behind No. 8 Arkansas and host Northwestern who sat tied atop the leaderboard. In the second round, tougher and windier conditions took their toll on the Eagles, leading to an over-par total when play was suspended due to darkness.
Sophomore Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) and senior Derek East (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada-St. Paul's-University of New Orleans) led the morning charge with career-best 67s for a second place tie.
Early morning rains softened the Evanston Golf Club tract, which already plays to a relatively short par-70, 6,793 yard layout. The rains moved out mid-morning, leaving stronger winds and toughening conditions as round one transitioned to round two.
Teams will complete the second round Monday morning, then continue into round three immediately in the same pairings as if it were another shotgun start. Live scoring can be found at Golfstat.com.
