Women's Golf Takes Third at The MAC Preview

FISHERS, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team concluded The Preview in third place Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 11, on the par 72, 6,127-yard Hawthorns Golf & Country Club course. The Eagles posted a 317 in the final round to wind up with a score of 622 (305-317), finishing one stroke behind the University of Toledo (621) and the University of Akron (621).
Junior Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) and sophomore Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada-Richmond Hill) paced the attack for the Green and White with a 154 in a tie for 12th place. Johnson has finished inside the top 20 in all three tournaments this season, while the top 20 showing was the the first of the young season for Kwon.
Behind Johnson and Kwon, Rushda Mallick (Cape Town, South Africa-Glenwood House-Cape Peninsula University of Technology) notched an 80 for a two-day total of 156 (76-80) to fall to 18th place. Senior Shannon Warner (Livonia, Mich.-Livonia Churchill-Michigan State) followed up her first round 76 with an 84 for a combined total of 160 in a tie for 29th place.
Competing as individuals, Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) tied for 29th with a 160 (72-78), while Usanee Laopattananont (Bangplee, Thailand-Thai Christian School) placed 83rd with a 181 (88-93). Rounding out the lineup, Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario-Westside Secondary School) fired an 83 for a tie for 41st place at 162 (79-83).
In the one-hole playoff between the Rockets and Zips, Toledo took home to team champion based on the aggregate score. Akron was one up after the first group but two UA golfers bogeyed in the second group, allowing UT's Allie Schultz to sink a birdie to give her team the title.
The Eagles remain in the state of Indiana for the Hoosier Fall Preview, Oct. 17-18, in Carmel, Ind.
