Jared Dalga Finishes Tied for Third at the Firestone Invite

The EMU men's golf team finished in 10th place with a three-day total of 873
AKRON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University sophomore Jared Dalga (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Forest Hills Central) enjoyed the best performance of his career, finishing at six-under 210 (69-73-68) to guide the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team to a 10th place finish at The Firestone Invitational on the Firestone Country Club course Tuesday, Oct. 11.
Eastern Michigan shot a season-best 284 to finish at nine-over par 873 (292-297-284). Indiana University and St. Mary's College stormed through their rounds on the final day to finish in a tie for first place at 10-under par 854. Iowa State (859) finished third was followed by SMU (863) and Ball State (864).
SMC's Mac McClung earned individual medalist honors after shooting an 11-under 205. Indiana's Chase Wright took third with a seven-under 209.
Dalga finished the tournament with a four-under 68 during Tuesday's final round to finish with a total of 210 in a four-way tie for third place. The Grand Rapids, Mich., native, shattered his previous career-low for a 54-hole tournament when he carded a 212 at earlier this season at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic, Sept. 26-27, 2011. The finish was Dalga's second career top-five finish in 12 all-time events. Additionally, his mark of 210 is tied for the ninth lowest 54-hole cumulative total in the program's history.
Sophomore Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) tied for 22nd place with a one-over total of 217 (74-74-69). Senior Derek East (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada-St. Paul's-University of New Orleans) turned in a third round 74 to fall into 48th with a 222 (72-76-74), followed closely by freshman Alex Jones (Dewitt, Mich.-Dewitt) at 228 (77-74-77) in 72nd place. Junior Casey Olsen (Okemos, Mich.-Okemos-Oakland University) posted rounds of 77, 82, 73 for a two-day total of 232 in 81st.
Competing as an individual, Brad Altenhoff (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-White Oaks Secondary) finished with a 234 (77-76-81).
