FISHERS, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) -- After the first round of play at the 2011 Mid-American Conference Fall Preview Monday, Oct. 10, the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team is tied with the University of Toledo atop the leaderboard with a 17-over par 305 on the Hawthorns Golf & Country Club course.
Leading the way for the Eagles was sophomore Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada-Richmond Hill) who finished the day tied for fourth place with a two-over 74. Shannon Warner (Livonia, Mich.-Livonia Churchill-Michigan State) and Rushda Mallick (Cape Town, South Africa-Glenwood House-Cape Peninsula University of Technology) are just two strokes behind with a 76. Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario-Westside Secondary School) fired a 79 for a tie for 22nd place and Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) added an 80 for 21st place.
Rounding out the EMU rotation as individual competitors, Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) and Usanee Laopattananont (Bangplee, Thailand-Thai Christian School) posted scores of 82 and 88, respectively.
IUPUI's Kristi O'Brien, Indiana State's Reece Feducia and Southern Illinois' Ryann Gilley are tied for the individual lead at one-over 73.
Final-round action is set to begin Tuesday morning.
