Eagles Jump to First Place After Day Two

Shannon Warner and Sarah Johnson tie for third place

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team moved up to first place after day two at the 35th Annual Nittany Lion Invitational, Oct. 1. The Green and White carded a nine-over-par 297 on the 6,229-yard, par-72 Penn State Blue Course for a two-day total of 597 (300-297).

Senior Shannon Warner (Livonia, Mich.-Livonia Churchill-Michigan State) and junior Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) finished the round tied for third place. Warner recorded a two-over-par, 74, while Johnson posted a one-under par, 71.

Junior Rushda Mallick (Cape Town, South Africa- Glenwood House-Cape Peninsula University of Technology) helped pace the Eagles with a one-over-par, 73, ending the round tied for 11th place.  

Junior Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada-Westside Secondary School) and sophomore Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada-Richmond Hill) both recorded a 79 on the day. Fairbairn is currently tied for 22nd while Kwon rounds out the line-up tied for 27th.

Longwood University's Ariel Witmer and Amanda Steinhagen currently hold first and second place, respectively.

The final round of championship play will begin Sunday, Oct. 2, with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
