EAST-WEST SHOWDOWN IN THE M.A.C. CENTER: Eastern Michigan University and Kent State University will battle for bragging rights Wednesday, Feb. 2, in a Mid-American Conference cross-divisional battle at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center in Kent, Ohio. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Eastern Michigan enters the game with a 15-7 (6-2 MAC) record, after escaping with a 72-62 road victory at Miami University, Jan. 29. The Golden Flashes are 15-5 (6-2 MAC), but suffered a 66-53 setback to conference leader Toledo, Jan. 29, at Savage Arena in Toledo, Ohio.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES: The Feb. 2 contest marks the 52nd meeting between the Golden Flashes and Eagles, who first met during the 1980-81 season. KSU leads the series, 34-17, including winning 24 of the last 31 meetings between the two schools. EMU took last year's lone regular-season meeting, Feb. 6, 2010, 78-72, at the Convocation Center.

SOMETHING HAS GOT TO GIVE: Eastern Michigan is a perfect 4-0 in Mid-American Conference road games this season. Meanwhile, Kent State is a perfect 9-0 at home this year. The Golden Flashes are riding a 15-game winning streak at the M.A.C. Center that dates back to Jan. 19, 2010. KSU's last home setback occurred 381 days ago, in an 89-61 loss to Bowling Green State University, Jan. 16, 2010.

SNOWMAGEDDON: With a potentially historic and destructive winter storm approaching the Great Lakes Region, the decision was made not to broadcast Wednesday night's contest in Kent, Ohio. Eagle All-Access and the Athletic Media Relations Office apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause, but you can still follow the game through live stats and video at KentStateSports.com.

NCAA RANKINGS: The latest NCAA Statistical Rankings came out on Jan. 31 and the Eagles are fifth in the nation (out of 333 eligible teams) in steals per game at 13.4. They are 18th in turnover margin at +5.55 and 39th in three-point field goal defense made per game at 28.0 percent. Individually, Sydney Huntley is 30th in the nation with an average of 2.9 steals rebounds per game. Tavelyn James is 45th in the nation in scoring with an average of 17.6 points per game, and Cassie Schrock is 23rd in the nation in assists with an average of 5.5 per game.

ON THE HORIZON: The Feb. 5 contest marks the 17th meeting between the Bulls and Eagles, who first met during the 1993-1994 season. EMU leads the series, 12-4, including winning the last nine meetings between the two schools by an average of 15 points per game (71.3 to 56.2). The teams met only once during the 2009-10 regular season with EMU claiming a 78-65 decision at Alumni Arena in Buffalo, N.Y., Feb. 10. The Eagles then followed it up with a 66-56 victory in an opening round MAC Tournament tilt at the Convocation Center, March 6.

ADD ANOTHER BANNER: Prior to the start of the game versus Buffalo, Feb. 5, EMU will celebrate its 2009-10 Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) appearance as it unveils the banner commemorating the team's third appearance.

STREAK SNAPPED: Senior Cassie Schrock did not attempt a free throw versus Ohio, Jan. 26, snapping a streak of 21 consecutive contests with at least one attempt. EMU's career leader in both free throws made and attempted, Schrock has just eight games in her career without a trip to the charity stripe.

EN FUEGO: The Eagles shot a white-hot 62.3 percent (38-of-61) from the floor in the 85-40 victory over the Ohio Bobcats, Jan. 26, in Ypsilanti. EMU's field goal percentage was the best in Convocation Center history, bettering a 57.6 (34-of-59) clip set by the Green and White versus Akron, Feb. 16, 1999. Meanwhile, the defense stepped up, holding Ohio to just 24.0 percent (12-of-50) from the field for the fifth worst field goal ratio in the building's 13-year history. Additionally, the 45-point margin of victory was the largest differential in conference play this season.

THREE-BALLS, TRIPLES OR TRI-LIGHTERS: No matter what you call it, the three-point shot has proved to be either a hindrance or a help to the Eagles in 2010-11. Eastern Michigan has notched a 10-2 record when it connects on five-or-more threes in a contest, and conversely just 5-5 when it does not. When the three pointers are falling the offense is clicking to the tune of 72.3 points per game and a 34.7 percent (85-of-245) clip. However, when struggling from long range Eastern is only averaging 62.9 points per contest and a dismal 17.4 percent (24-of-138) from the long line.

EAGLES VERSUS THE EAST DIVISION: The 2010-11 season is the sixth utilizing the current Mid-American Conference scheduling format for women's basketball. Each of the 12 schools opens league action with five divisional games, followed by six cross-divisional games and then five more divisional contests to close the regular season.
Eastern Michigan has posted a 28-21 record versus MAC East Division opponents since the 2004-05 campaign. Eastern is 3-0 this season after finishing 4-4 last season. The Green and White were 2-5 in cross-divisional games in 2008-09, 4-3 in 2007-08, 4-4 in 2006-07, 6-2 in 2005-06 and 5-3 in 2004-05.
