Men's Swimming and Diving Tops Buffalo

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team won their 58th consecutive Mid-American Conference dual-meet in defeating the University at Buffalo this afternoon, 164-136, at Jones Natatorium.
With the victory, the Eagles improve to 2-3 (2-0 MAC), while the Bulls drop to 3-3 (0-2 MAC).
The Green and White were led by Jacob Hanson (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) who swept both the 100 and 200 backstroke events. Hanson picked up his first win in the 100 back with his time of 49.30. In the 200, Hanson defeated last year's MAC Champion, Matt Schwippert, when he completed the distance in 1:47.52. Hanson would later go on lead EMU's podium sweep of the 400 IM, followed by teammates Michael Swain (Ann Arbor, Mich.-Huron) and Troy Esentan (North Little Rock, Ark.-Central).
Esentan also faired well in the 100 breastroke, taking first place in the event after touching the wall at 57.70 and also placed first in the 500 freestyle in 4:36.76.
The Eagles also picked up wins in the 200 butterfly, with Owen Grey (Allen, Texas-Allen) leading the pack with his 1:53.56 performance, and Justin Griggs (Cheltenham, Australia-Australian Catholic University) posting a 21.04, first place finish in the 50 freestyle and a first place time of 50.30 in the 100 fly.
On the boards, Jeffrey Craig (Kent,Ohio-Field) tallied 321.07 points to place second in the one meter event and took first in the three-meter with a 389.03 performance.
EMU will return to action next Friday, Jan. 28 when they host Xavier at Jones Natatorium. The dual-meet is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.
