Men's Golf Tied for Seventh at Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic

NOTRE DAME, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) –– The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team is tied for seventh place following the opening day at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic here at the par 70, 7,023-yard Warren Golf Course. Freshman Jared Dalga (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Forest Hills Central) is leading the Eagles with a five-over-par, 145 (73-72) and is currently tied for 18th among 81 individual golfers.

As a team, Eastern Michigan shot a 30-over-par 590 (297-293), and is currently 23 strokes behind co-leaders Iowa and Notre Dame. San Francisco's Taylor Travis and Notre Dame's Tom Usher are tied atop the leaderboard with a one-under 139.

Senior Nick Carbary (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Mattawan) is one shot behind Dalga with a six-over 146 (75-71) in a tie for 21st place. Freshman Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) is in 27th place after carded rounds of 73 and 75 for a 36-hole total of 148. Senior Adam Winwood (Epping, Essex, UK-St. Johns (South Mountain CC) and sophomore Bradley Altenhoff (Oakville, Ontario-White Oaks Secondary) rounded out the lineup with a 151 (76-75) and a 163 (84-79), respectively.

Competing as an individual, junior Zach MacDougall (Coquitlam, British Columbia-Centennial) is tied for 39th place with a 150 (74-76).

The teams will wrap-up the tournament with 18 final holes Tuesday, Sept. 28.
