Volleyball Falls Short to High Point University

Volleyball loses second straight at NFINITY Wildcat Classic

DAVIDSON, N.C. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan volleyball team came up short Saturday, Sept. 18, losing the final match of the NFINITY Wildcat Classic versus High Point University. The Eagles took the first two sets, 25-23 and 25-22, but the Panthers battled back to take the next two sets , 25-13, 26-24, before closing the match out with a 15-9 win in the decisive fifth set.
With the loss the Eagles drop to 11-3 on the season, while High Point improves to 5-9 overall.
The first set went back-and-forth with four lead changes and 11 ties until Paige Roback was able to clench the win with a service ace (25-23). Roback led the set with five kills and two digs. The Green and White set the pace for most of the second set recording a .350 attack percentage to the Panther's .279. Rachel Iaquaniello, Jenn Swartz, and Roback led the Eagles in set two with five kills each. Stephanie Wallin paced the Panthers with four kills (22-25).
HPU came back fighting in the third set, taking the lead early and never looking back. The Panthers recorded 11 kills, while the Eagles were only able to capitalize on four (13-25). The fourth set was a battle, as both teams racked up 24 digs. Errors plagued the Eagles giving the win to the Panthers (26-24). HPU finished the series posting eight kills to EMU's two (15-9).
Iaquaniello and Roback led the Eagles, each posting a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs, while Haley Stein recorded 36 digs. Megan Smith helped the Panthers in the win with 18 kills and 17 digs. Julie Hershkowitz posted 32 digs for HPU. Kristen Baker and Swartz earned All-Tournament honors.
The Eagles hit the court again on Sept. 21 for their home opener versus Youngstown State University with the first serve at 7 p.m. EMU stays at home for the week with contests on Sept. 23 and 25 against Central Michigan University and Kent State, respectively. Both matches are set to start at 7 p.m.
