THE TEAMS: The Eastern Michigan University football team returns home from a one-game road trip to the state of Ohio to host the Central Michigan University Chippewas in a Mid-American Conference West Division game Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, at 4 p.m. in Rynearson Stadium. The Eagles have lost their first two games by a total of 11 total points, 31-27 to Army in the opener and 28-21 at Miami last weekend. Central opened the year with a 33-0 home win over Hampton followed by a 13-10 setback at Temple Thursday, Sept. 9, in the MAC opener for both teams.

EMU VS. CMU: EMU and CMU will be meeting for the 88th time on the gridiron. The series began in 1902 when CMU recorded a 10-0 shutout, Nov. 1.

LAST TIME WE MET: Central Michigan hosted Eastern Michigan, Oct. 10, 2009, and the host Chippewas turned in a 56-8 victory in a game played in Kelly/Shorts Stadium in Mount Pleasant, Mich.

BIG PLAY RECEIVER: Sophomore wide receiver Kinsman Thomas (Bennettsville, S.C.-Marlboro County) has five touchdown passes in his10-game EMU career and two of those have been for more than 70 yards. He caught a 71-yard touchdown strike from wide receiver Josh LeDuc (Canton, Mich.-Plymouth) in EMU's game at Miami, Sept. 11. He added a 40-yard touchdown pass from Alex Gillett (Green Springs, Ohio-Clyde) in that Miami contest. He also hauled in a 77-yard TD pass at Arkansas, Oct. 31, 2009. His other touchdown grabs have been for 12 yards versus Western Michigan, Nov. 14, 2009, and 29 yards at Toledo, Nov. 20, 2009.

TELEVISION TIME: The 2010 EMU football team will make five television appearances. The EMU at Ohio State game, Sept. 25, has been scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start on ABC and ESPN (reverse mirror). The EMU-Ohio game, Oct. 2, will be shown on ESPN regional and there will be three games, EMU at Miami, Sept. 11, EMU home vs. Toledo, Oct. 30, and EMU at Buffalo, Nov. 20, all on SportsTime Ohio.

FIRST RETURN: Senior defensive back Brandon Pratt (Detroit, Mich.-Westland John Glenn) recorded the first return of his career when he ran a kickoff back 20 yards in the first half at Miami, Sept. 11.

DOUBLE THREAT: Senior wide receiver Josh LeDuc (Canton, Mich.-Plymouth) became a serious double threat in EMU's game at Miami, Sept. 11. LeDuc's first scoring action came on a pitch from quarterback Alex Gillett (Green Springs, Ohio-Clyde), ending in a 71-yard touchdown pass to a wide open Kinsman Thomas (Bennettsville, S.C.-Marlboro County). He then scored on an 11-yard touchdown reception from Gillett.

KARUTZ EARNS HONORS: Sophomore punter Jay Karutz (North Ryde, New South Wales, Australia-Holy Cross College) turned in an outstanding effort in just his second college football game ever, Sept. 11 at Miami, and was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Karutz racked up four punts for 198 yards for a 49.5 yard average against the RedHawks. Three of those punts were downed inside the 20-yard line, including two that were downed inside the one-yard line. His fourth punt was a 56-yard effort that went out of bounds. That 49.5 yard average is a school record, shattering the previous single-game mark of 49.0 set by Jerry Wedge versus Eastern Illinois University, Oct. 27, 1956. For his efforts against Miami, Karutz was also named an honorable mention choice for national Division I punter performer of week two by College Football Performance Awards organization.
Karutz is in his first season at EMU after enrolling this summer after playing Australian Rules football in Australia. He is considered a redshirt sophomore for the Eagles after attending MacQuarie University in Australia.

BEST SINCE 2005: When senior tailback Dwayne Priest (Roanoke, Va.-Fleming-Fork Union Academy) and sophomore quarterback Alex Gillett (Green Springs, Ohio-Clyde) both ran for more than 100 yards in the 2010 season opener last weekend, Sept. 4, against Army, it was the first time that two EMU backs were over the century mark since the 2005 season when Tyler Jones and Anthony Sherrell both surpassed 100 yards. Against Army last weekend, Priest ran 26 times for 142 yards and Gillett rushed 18 times for 126. Jones ran 12 times for 107 yards and Sherrell carried the rock 19 times for 107 yards, Oct. 22, 2005, at home against Miami.

LEADING THE NATION: The Eagles lead the nation in net punting thanks to two outstanding efforts by punter Jay Karutz (North Ryde, New South Wales, Australia-Holy Cross College) Karutz has punted five times for 238 yards with three inside the 20. EMU's net punt total is 47.40. Karutz has a 47.6-yard average and would be ranked nationally, but he does not have enough attempts to be listed.

PRIEST NAMED MAC WEST DIVISION OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Senior running back Dwayne Priest was named the Mid-American Conference's West Division Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 5. The honor marks the first time Priest has collected the weekly accolade after running for a career-best 142 yards on 26 rushes and scoring two touchdowns in Eastern Michigan's 31-27 loss to Army, Sept. 4.
