Lauren Grimes leads the Golden Flashes in hitting with an impressive .400 average while Jessie Carmichael is tied with EMU's Jenny Scherer for the league lead in home runs with nine. Kylie Reynolds has been KSU's top pitcher this season, holding steady a 1.97 ERA and a 19-13 overall record. She has an astounding 277 strikeouts in already 202.1 innings pitched so far this season. KSU has won seven of its last eight games and 10-of-12 overall, all of which have been against conference opponents.
A LOOK AT THE BULLS: The University at Buffalo enters the week with a 15-29 overall record and a 4-10 conference mark, good for sixth in the MAC East. The Bulls have dropped six of their last seven games overall and seven of their last eight conference games. Kristin Waldron leads the Bulls with a .345 batting average, 25 RBI and 23 runs scored so far this season. In the circle, Sharon Barr leads the team with 12 wins in 175.2 innings pitched. The Bulls will begin a nine-game homestand to close out the year beginning with a non-conference meeting with cross-town rival Cansisius April 28, before welcoming Central Michigan and the Eagles this weekend.
EMU VERSUS OPPONENTS: The Eagles hold all-time winning records against two of their opponents this week. EMU is 4-2 all-time against IPFW and 6-3 against Buffalo. The last meeting with the Mastodons, the Eagles won 10-2 back on April 1, 2009. Kent State owns a commanding advantage versus EMU all-time, holding a 40-27 edge and winning the previous five meetings and six of the last seven dating back to 2006.
WEEK IN REVIEW: Eastern Michigan dropped a pair of Mid-American Conference games to MAC West leader Central Michigan University last weekend. Fresh off earning their Head Coach Margo Jonker's 1,000th career victory, the Chippewas came away with a 5-3 extra-inning victory in game one before running away with a 7-1 win in game two last Saturday, April 24. The Eagles dropped game one despite a solid pitching performance by Jamie Melchert and home runs by Stacie Skodinski and Nellie Coquillard. The back-breaker was an eighth inning grand slam by CMU's Amanda Patrick which proved to be the game-winner. Both teams joined forces to raise money for cancer in an event titled “Knock Cancer Out of the Park,” the second year in which EMU has hosted.
