Scott Surges Atop the Leaderboard at the MAC Championships

FISHERS, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University junior Robyn Scott (Auckland, New Zealand-Westlake Girls-Texas Tech Univ.) fired a 70 in the second round to surge into the lead at even-par 144 (74-70) after 36-holes of the 2010 Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championship. The Eagles stand alone in second place after two rounds of play on the par 72, 6,037 yard Hawthorns Golf and Country Club, compiling a team score of 602 (306-296) in the nine team field.

Scott opened her round on fire with birdies on No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4, but followed that with bogeys on No. 5 and No. 6. She then was one-under over the next nine holes with a birdie on No. 10 before closing out with a bogey on No. 16 and a birdie on No. 18.

Kent State increased its lead to 10 strokes following Saturday's second round, the Golden Flashes shot a seven-over par 295 today giving them a two-day total of 16-over par 592. KSU is looking to capture its 12th straight MAC Championship and remain the only school that has won the conference's women's golf title.

The Golden Flashes' Martina Gavier (72-73) and the Cardinals' Rachael Pruett (72-73) are one stroke back at one-over par 145. Western Michigan University's Britney Hamilton also fired a 70, as the tandem were the only players in the field to break par.

All five Eagles are ranked in the top 32 including freshman Emily Podzielinski (Noblesville, Ind.-Noblesville) who carded a second round 72 to remain in a tie for fourth place at 146 (74-72). Junior Stephanie Bevington (Ossosso, Mich.-Owosso) is in 21st with a 156 (81-75) and Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) added a 157 (78-79) for a tie for 22nd place. Freshman Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) notched a 161 (80-81) for a 31st place tie.

The third and final round of the 2010 MAC Women's Golf Championship will get underway at 8 a.m. Sunday, April 25, at 8 a.m. Following competition MAC Golfer, Freshman, Coach and Sportswomen of the Year, First and Second Team All-MAC and the All-Tournament team will be announced.
