FISHERS, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – Led by junior Robyn Scott (Auckland, New Zealand-Westlake Girls-Texas Tech Univ.), Eastern Michigan University placed four golfers in the top 30 of the individual standings and finished in fourth place in the final standings at the 12th Annual Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championship held at the Hawthorns Golf and Country Club. It marked the fourth consecutive year that the Eagles had finished in the top four of the team standings at the MAC Championship with a 54-hole score of 926 (306-296-324). Scott finished in third place to equal the best finish by an EMU student-athlete since the tournament began in 1999.
Kent State remained the only school that has won the conference's women's golf title with a 19-stroke victory over Ball State (911) while Toledo (912) finished in third place. Akron finished fifth with a 929, as Western Michigan (931), Ohio (959), Bowling Green (983) and Northern Illinois (989) rounded out the team scores.
The Golden Flashes' Martina Gavier captured medalist honors with a one-over par 217 (72-73-72) marking the fifth straight year a KSU golfer has won the individual title. Gavier finished three strokes ahead of Ball State senior Brittany Kelly (76-74-71), who carded a one-under 71 for the low round of the day.
Scott, who entered the day with the individual lead, managed as 78 in the final round to finish with a three-day total of 222 (74-70-78). With the third place finish puts the New Zealand native joins EMU greats Catherine Fortin (2007) and Stephany Fleet (2009) as the only Eagles to have ever finished that high at the league's championship.
Behind Scott, freshman Emily Podzielinski (Noblesville, Ind.-Noblesville) tied for sixth with a 226 (74-72-80) while junior Stephanie Bevington (Ossosso, Mich.-Owosso) finished 23rd with a 54-hole score of 237 (81-75-81). Junior Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) placed 29th with a 243 (78-79-86) while freshman Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) rounded out the EMU lineup with a 246 (80-81-85) for a 33rd place tie.
