YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team will compete at the 2010 Mid-American Conference Championship Friday through Sunday, April 23-25, at the Hawthorns Golf & Country Club in Fishers, Ind. The three-day, 72-hole event, will be played at 6,037 yards and to a par-72 for the nine MAC schools which sponsor women's golf – Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Toledo and Western Michigan.
The tournament, which is hosted by the University of Toledo, will feature 36 holes Friday, 18 holes Saturday and the final 18 holes Sunday. The event is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. each day. The tournament is open to the public and admission is free.
The Eagles finished as the runner-up to the Golden Flashes at last year's MAC Championship at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio, April 24-26, 2009. EMU carded a three-day total of 1,256 (333-307-314-302) as Kent State rolled to its 11th consecutive championship with a 72-hole total of 1,217 (304-309-312-292).
EMU's second-place finish equaled the mark set by the 2003, 2007 and the 2008 squads. In 2003, the Green and White recorded a 925 at Walden Ponds Golf Course in Hamilton, Ohio. The 2007 team posted a 1,252 at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio, while the 2008 Eagles finished as the runner-up with 1,228 at The Brickyard Crossing Golf Course in Indianapolis, Ind.
The Eagles' four runner-up finishes at the MAC Championship are the second-most of any team in the league. Ohio has finished second at the event five-times (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005) with Western Michigan (2004) and Toledo (2006) as the only other teams to record a second place finish in the history of the tournament.
