EMU took an early lead on Courtney Nicholson's first career home run, but couldn't hold on, falling 3-1

Box Score

MUNCIE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – Another early lead was squandered for the Eastern Michigan University softball team, as the visitors fell, 3-1, to the Ball State University Cardinals in the first of a two-game set Saturday, April 10, at the BSU Softball Complex.

Freshman Courtney Nicholson recorded two of the Eagles' three hits on the day, going 2-for-3 with her first career home run with one out in the first inning. She gave EMU a lead that was short-lived against the MAC West favorites before the Cardinals scored two runs in the second to take a 2-1 lead, one they would not relinquish.

The Eagles (11-18, 3-4 MAC) managed just four hits as their struggles continued offensively. EMU has recorded four or fewer hits in each of its last four games, resulting in a three-game losing streak for the Green and White.

Despite taking the loss, EMU starting pitcher Jaclyn Caro (0-3) performed well in the circle. The junior went the distance, allowing three runs on five hits while walking four and fanning three. Her counterpart, reigning MAC Pitcher of the Year Elizabeth Milian, allowed just a run on four hits over seven innings to move to 17-2 on the year.

The Eagles and Cardinals (23-9, 3-2 MAC) will finish up the two-game set Sunday, April 11. EMU will look to move its record to an even .500 in conference play. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. at the BSU Softball Complex. Live stats and audio will be available and can be found by going to EMUEagles.com.
