EMU struggled offensively despite a leadoff homer by McKenna Russ, tallying just four hits against Florida A&M
Box Score
BOCA RATON, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University softball received a home run by McKenna Russ to lead off the game, but that lead would be short-lived as Florida A&M charged back for a 5-2 victory at the FAU “Miken” Classic Saturday, March 6, in Boca Raton, Fla.
Russ launched her first home run of the season, a shot to left center to give the Eagles an early lead. The Rattlers responded with a run in the next frame and went on to tally a score in each of the following three innings thereafter. Florida A&M pitcher Amanda Reyes held the Eagles to just four hits as the EMU offense continues to find the stroke that put up 13 runs in the season opener against Villanova.
With the score, 3-1, heading into the bottom of the fourth, Stacie Skodinski singled to start a rally for the Eagles. She would come around to score on Sarah Gerber's single up the middle to pull the Eagles to within a run at 3-2.
However, another scoring frame by the Rattlers extended that lead for good with a two-run fifth off of three hits and capped off by a two-run double to right center by Taylor West.
The Eagles fall to 5-8 on the season while Florida A&M pushes its record to 7-6. EMU will play Connecticut tomorrow, Sunday, March 7 to conclude the FAU “Miken” Classic. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m.
