Men's Golf Tied For Seventh In First Action of the Spring

DADE CITY, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team opened up the spring portion of the 2009-10 schedule Friday afternoon, March 5, in fine fashion at the USF Invitational. The Eagles combined for a three-over par 291 to sit in a tie for seventh place with the University of South Florida after the first day of the 54-hole tournament, which is being played on the 7,153 yard, par-72 Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club.
Seniors Cam Burke (Baden, Ontario-Waterloo Secondary) fired a two-under 70 to sit in a tie for fourth place. Junior Brad Larente (Cambridge, Ontario-Hespeler Secondary) also notched a round under-par with a 71for 11th place. Senior Brandon Lemons (Portage, Mich.-Portage Central) turned in a 74 for 49th place, while senior Marty Jeppesen (Saline, Mich.-Saline) and sophomore Zach MacDougall (Coquitlam, British Columbia-Centennial) rounded out the lineup with a 76 and a 79, respectively.
North Florida shot a 286 in the first round and holds a two shot lead over Middle Tennessee State University, Florida Southern College and Campbell University, who are tied for second place with a 288. The individual leaders are UNF's Sean Dale, FSC's Matt Stauch, Arkansas State's Wessel Zwiegers and USF's Luke Leibel, who finished the first round with a four-under 68.
