YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Coming off a season-high team score of 193.425 at Ball State University last week, the Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team is set for the 2010 Mid-American Conference Gymnastics Championship Saturday afternoon, March 27, at Anderson Arena in Bowling Green, Ohio. The competition is slated to begin at 2 p.m.

THREE IN-A-ROW: Last week at Ball State, true freshman Kaylyn Millick (Washington, Pa.-Trinity) registered her third consecutive all-around win, posting a career-high all-around score of 39.000 against the Cardinals. Millick carded a career-high 9.825 in the floor exercise to finish tied for third, while taking second on the balance beam (9.725), fifth on the bars (9.675), and third on the vault (9.775). Millick also won the all-around at the Eagle Invitational, March 13, and at the Cal Davis Invitational, March 5.

AWARD WINNING EAGLE: Senior Erin Grigg (North Bay, Ontario-Widdifeld) was recently named the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Week for the third time in her career. Grigg, a 3.98 GPA in exercise science, helped the Eagles finish atop the field at the 2010 Eagle Invitational, March 13, carding scores of 9.700 (uneven parallel bars), 9.675 (floor exercise), and 9.525 (vault). Her 9.700 on the bars was good for third place in the competition. EMU finished first overall at the Eagle Invitational with a team score of 192.17, besting Northern Illinois, Western Michigan and Seattle Pacific. Grigg was also named the MAC Gymnast of the Week, Feb. 16, for the first time in her four-year career.

A GOLDEN PERFORMANCE: Senior Sam Golden (Denville, N.J.-Morris Knolls) posted career-high marks versus Ball State, March 21, as her 9.725 on the vault was good for fourth and her 9.625 floor exercise routine was good for a ninth place tie with BSU's Christa Greinke.

GRAND FINALE: The Eagles posted a season-best team score of 193.425 in their regular season finale at Ball State, March 21, while also tallying a season-best team vault score of 48.625.

BEAMING WITH CONFIDENCE: Junior Nikole Viltz (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.-Carmel) posted a season-best 9.800 on the balance beam versus Ball State, March 21, to finish first overall in the event and top teammate and runner-up Kaylyn Millick (Washington, Pa.-Trinity), who took second with a 9.725.

LAST TIME AT THE “HOUSE THAT ROARS”: Saturday's trip to Bowling Green's Anderson Arena marks EMU's second of the season. The Eagles dropped their only regular season meeting versus the Falcons, 193.175-191.875, Feb. 21. True freshman Brittany Cassar (Kings Park, N.Y.-Kings Park) tallied a career-best 9.675 floor exercise mark in the loss to the Falcons.

SO FAR, SO GOOD: In nine meets this season, the Eagles are averaging over 191 points per-competition. The Eagles' highest score came last week, March 21, in a loss to Ball State when the team posted a 193.425. EMU's 188.200 score in the victory against Western Michigan University, Feb. 13, marks the Eagles' lowest output of the season.
