Eagles Take Third at MAC Championship

EMU posts season-high 193.625 to finish in third place

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team had a solid showing at the 2010 Mid-American Conference Championship Saturday afternoon, March 27, at Anderson Arena on the campus of Bowling Green State University, as the Eagles took third place with a season-best team score of 193.625.

Central Michigan University captured the MAC title with a team score of 195.600, edging Kent State University, who finished second with a team score of 195.025.

Following EMU's third place finish was Northern Illinois University (193.200), Ball State University (193.100), Western Michigan University (192.875), and Bowling Green (191.850).

True freshman Kaylyn Millick (Washington, Pa.-Trinity) finished ninth all-around with a score of 38.475, while senior Erin Grigg (North Bay, Ontario-Widdifield) tallied an all-around score of 37.675 to finish 13th overall.

The Eagles opened up the MAC Championship on the balance beam in their first rotation, as the team topped previous season-high mark with team score of 48.400. Juniors Grace Crouch (Belbrook, Ohio-Belbrook) and Nikole Viltz (Hawthorn, Woods, Ill.-Carmel) both tallied a 9.700, while Millick carded a team-high 9.775 to pace EMU.

EMU hit the floor for its second rotation, as Grigg helped the Eagles finish just under their season high mark in the event by carding a team-best score of 9.800. No EMU gymnast scored less than a 9.700 in the floor exercise, as the Eagles finished with a team score of 48.700 to give them a team score of 97.100 after two events. Senior Sam Golden (Denville, N.J.-Morris Knolls) tallied season-best 9.725 in the floor exercise to finish tied for third on the team with Millick.

In its third rotation of the day, Eastern Michigan competed on the vault and finished with a team score of 48.375, with Grigg leading the way with a 9.775. Through three events, the Eagles tallied a team score of 145.475.

EMU competed on the bars in its fourth and final rotation, compiling a score of 48.150, with freshman Brittany Cassar (Kings Park, N.Y.-Kings Park) leading the way with a 9.675 for the Green and White.
