GOODYEAR, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) – Senior Brandon Lemons (Portage, Mich.-Portage Central) enjoyed the best performance of his career, finishing at nine-under 207 (67-67-73) to guide the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team to a third place finish at the Desert Shootout on the Palm Valley Golf Course Saturday, March 20.
Eastern Michigan shot a final-round 300 to finish at six-under par 858 (280-278-300). Kansas and Wichita State stormed through their rounds on the final day to overtake the Eagles and finish in a tie for first place at nine-under par 855, but the Shockers won in a playoff. EMU was followed by Brigham Young (859) and Pacific (860).
WSU's Dustin Garza earned individual medalist honors after shooting a 14-under 202. Kansas' Nate Barbee took second with an 11-under 205.
Lemon's finished the weekend with a one-over 73 during Saturday's final round to finish with the total of 207 in third place. The Portage, Mich., native, shattered his previous career-low for a 54-hole tournament when he cared a 216 at earlier this season at the Wolverine Invitational at Radrick Farms, Sept. 26-27, 2009.
Senior Cam Burke (Baden, Ontario -Waterloo Secondary) tied for 13th place with a two-under total of 214 (69-70-74). Senior Marty Jeppesen (Saline, Mich.-Saline) turned in a third round 75 to fall into 23rd with a 216 (72-69-75), followed closely by junior Brad Larente (Cambridge, Ontario-Hespeler Secondary) at 221 (72-72-77) in 50th place. Adam Winwood (Epping, Essex, UK-St. Johns (South Mountain (Ariz.) CC) posted rounds of 74, 73 and 82 for a three-day total of 229 in a tie for 81st. Competing as an individual, Zach MacDougall (Coquitlam, British Columbia-Centennial) finished with a 260 (90-85-85).
