GOODYEAR, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team surged into the lead at the 2010 Desert Shootout with four more rounds of par-or-better on the Palm Valley Golf Course. The Eagles sit atop the leader board with a 36-hole mark of 558 (280-278), four strokes in front of Wichita State (282-280=562).
Senior Brandon Lemons (Portage, Mich.-Portage Central) continued his assault on the course with another round of 67 to remain in second place with a 10-under par 134 . A day after posting a 69 in the first round, senior Cam Burke (Baden, Ontario-Waterloo Secondary) is tied for eighth place with a five-under total of 139 (69-70).
Kansas State fell to third place with a 12-under par 564 after Joe Ida, who entered the round in a tie for fourth place, was forced to withdraw with an injury. Xavier (565) and Brigham Young (568) rounded out the top five. Pacific, which entered the day with the lead, fell to sixth place with a six-under par 570.
Senior Marty Jeppesen (Saline, Mich.-Saline) turned in a second round 69 to move into 12th with a 141 (72-69), followed closely by junior Brad Larente (Cambridge, Ontario-Hespeler Secondary) at 144 (72-72) in 37th place. Adam Winwood (Epping, Essex, UK-St. Johns (South Mountain (Ariz.) CC) posted rounds of 74 and 73 for a two-day total of 147 in a tie for 55th. Competing as an individual, Zach MacDougall (Coquitlam, British Columbia-Centennial) continued to struggle in 101st with a 175 (90-85).
The final round of the 2010 Desert Shootout will be played Saturday, March 20, with the shotgun start set for 8:30 a.m. MT.
