Gymnastics Takes Third at State of Michigan Classic

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team took third place (191.250) Sunday, Feb. 7, at University Arena. EMU competed in the 18th Annual State of Michigan Classic, along with Central Michigan University who took first place (194.975), Michigan State University taking second place (194.550) and Western Michigan University finishing fourth (190.875).

The Green and White recorded their first win, going 1-2 on the day, improving their record to 1-4 overall (0-2 MAC).

True freshman Kaylyn Millick (Washington, Pa.-Trinity) tallied EMU's highest all-around score of the competition, scoring 9.675 on the vault, 9.550 on the bars, 9.750 in the floor exercise, and 9.775 on the beam to finish with an all-around score of 38.750, good for sixth overall. Millick also tied for second overall with her performance on the beam along with CMU's Andrea delaGarza and Britney Taylor.

Senior Erin Grigg (North Bay, Ontario-Widdifield) and junior Nikole Viltz (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.-Carmel) recorded EMU's highest score of the meet, both on the vault, carding a 9.800, only finishing behind CMU's Kristin Teubner and MSU's Nicole Argiros who tallied scores of 9.875 and 9.825. Grigg also carded a 8.875 on the bars, 9.000 on the beam, and 9.750 in the floor exercise, while Viltz received a 9.600 on the beam.

Sophomore Stacie Wood (Brantford, Ontario-Brantford Collegiate Institute) had a strong performance, finishing with scores of 9.650 on the bars and 9.625 in the floor exercise.

Senior Samantha Golden (Denville, N.J.-Morris Knolls) recorded a 9.625 in the floor exercise and a 9.525 on the vault, while junior Grace Crouch (Bellbrook, Ohio-Bellbrook) tallied a 9.650 on the balance beam.

The Eagles are back in action, Feb. 13, when they travel back to Kalamazoo, Mich. to take on the Western Michigan University Broncos.
