Women's Golf Finishes Tied for Fourth at Red Rocks Invitational

SEDONA, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) – Behind the solid play of juniors Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) and Robyn Scott (Auckland, New Zealand-Westlake Girls-Texas Tech Univ.), the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team finished tied for fourth place at the Red Rocks Invitational with a 36-hole mark of 641 (320-231) Sunday, Feb. 28, here at the Oakcreek Country Club. The duo of Peters and Scott finished deadlocked for 23rd with a two-day total of 161, making EMU one of eight teams in the 18-team tournament to boast a pair of top 25 finishers.
Northern Arizona captured the team title in its own tournament for the second time in tournament history, but the first since the inaugural year of 2006. The Lumberjacks outlasted Cal Poly, which finished four strokes back in the team standings. The University of Portland finished third (638) followed by EMU and Xavier in for fourth (641).
Portland's Paige Rachor earned medalist honors, holding off Cal Poly's Kristine Locke and Maddy Fletcher by one stroke.
Freshman Emily Podzielinski (Noblesville, Ind.-Noblesville) finished the event with a 162 (79-83) for a 27th place tie. Freshman Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake) and senior Marjorie Thuot (Joliette, Ouebec-Therese-Martin) rounded out the lineup with a 163 (80-83) and a 164 (87-77), respectively.
Competing as individuals, junior Stephanie Bevington (Ossosso, Mich.-Owosso) finished tied for 37th with a 165 (80-85) while and junior Lina Pasquali (Kendallville, Ind.-East Noble) posted rounds of 83 and 84 for a tie for 52nd place.
The Eagles will remain in the "Valley of the Sun," for the eighth annual Rio Verde Invitational March 5-7 at the Rio Verde Country Club in Rio Verde, Ariz.
