SEDONA, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) – After a four month layoff, the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team returned to the links and kicked off the 2010 spring season Saturday, Feb. 27, here at the 18-team Red Rocks Invitational at the par 72 Oakcreek Country Club. Junior Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) and freshman Emily Podzielinski (Noblesville, Ind.-Noblesville) carded rounds of 79 to sit a in tie for 15th place after the tournament's first round.
As a team, the Eagles are tied with Montana for third place with an 18-hole total of 320, while Cal Ploy is setting the pace with a score of 307. Host Northern Arizona is in second with a 312.
Individually for the Green and White, freshman Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) is tied for 21st with an 80 and junior Robyn Scott (Auckland, New Zealand-Westlake Girls-Texas Tech Univ.) is 35th with an 82. Senior Marjorie Thuot (Joliette, Ouebec-Therese-Martin) rounded out the lineup with an 87 for a 81st place tie.
Competing as individuals, juniors Stephanie Bevington (Ossosso, Mich.-Owosso) and Lina Pasquali (Kendallville, Ind.-East Noble) shot 80 and 83, respectively.
The Green and White return to the course Sunday, Feb. 28, for the final round. The shotgun start is schedule for 8 a.m.
