EAGLES HEAD TO HAWAI'I FOR THE RAINBOW WAHINE CLASSIC: The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team leaves behind the cold this week, Nov. 19-21, jetting to the island of Oahu, to participate in the Jack in the Box Rainbow Wahine Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawai'i. The Eagles and Rainbow Wahine will be joined by Oregon State University and California State University- Northridge. The Green and White square off versus the Beavers Friday, Nov. 19, followed by a matchup with the Rainbow Wahine Saturday, Nov. 20, and the Matadors Sunday, Nov. 21. All games are anticipated to start at 3 p.m. HAST (8 p.m. EST).
The trip will mark the second time that EMU has played in Hawai'i. In 2005 the Eagles played in the 27th Annual Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Wahine Classic, falling 64-49 to No. 17 DePaul, No. 25, and 69-59 to Cal State Northridge, Nov. 26 . Eastern did not fare any better in the finale, as Idaho State rolled to a 78-61 victory, Nov. 27 .

APPROACHING 1,000: Senior Cassie Schrock has scored 999 points in her career and ranks 16th all time. There are currently 15 players in the 1,000-point club for EMU women's basketball.

EMU AND THE IN-SEASON TOURNAMENT: Since winning three consecutive in-season tournaments during the 2004-05 campaign, the Eagles have struggled with a 1-8 record in the four events since. Eastern's lone victory during that span was a 52-43 decision over the University of Alabama in the opening game of the Fifth Annual Junkanoo Jam, Nov. 23, 2007, at St. George's High School in the Bahamas.

EMU VERSUS TEAMS IN THE TOURNAMENT: Eastern Michigan has never faced either Oregon State or Hawai'i prior to the Jack in the Box Classic, Nov. 19-21.
OSU is a member of the 10-team Pacific-10 Conference, which the Eagles have an 0-2 all-time record against that includes a pair of setbacks to the University of Washington in the mid-1980s.
EMU also has a limited history with the Western Athletic Conference, to which Hawai'i is a member. The Green and White are 1-1 all-time versus the WAC with a victory over Idaho and a loss to Nevada.
Interestingly, the tournament's third participant, Cal State Northridge, does have a history with the Eagles. The then-Hurons defeated Cal State Northridge, 78-69, in the team's first meeting, Dec. 29, 1990, at the Matadome in Northridge, Calif. However, the Matadors returned the favor with a 69-59 victory on a neutral court in Hawai'i, Nov. 26, 2005. In that game, Sarah VanMetre led the Green and White with 15 points and nine rebounds off the bench.

I WOULD WALK 10,000 MILES OR 1,478 TO BE EXACT: Pack your bags and grab some information about frequent flyer programs because the Eagles will earn plenty of mileage over the next month. The team will make stops in Hawai'i and Missouri. All together the EMU road trips will tally over 11,748 miles during the non-conference season. During the Mid-American Conference season the Eagles will rack up only 2,968 miles of travel during their eight league road contests.

THIS DATE IN EMU HISTORY: The game on Nov. 19 will mark the second time the Eagles will have played on that date, recording a 1-0 record all-time. The last occurrence came in 2005 when the Green and White cruised to an 82-31 victory over Wayne State University in the Eagle Classic at the Convocation Center.
EMU is 2-1 on Nov. 20, last playing at Siena College (W, 77-55), while the squad is a perfect 3-0 on games played on Nov. 21.

OHIO STATE GAME REWIND: The Eastern Michigan University women's basketball team's first trip to Ohio State University in 10 years was a memorable one, as the Eagles gave the nationally ranked Buckeyes everything they could handle in a 74-62 setback Saturday afternoon, Nov. 14, at the Value City Arena. OSU, ranked seventh in the latest Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today coaches' polls, needed an 18-7 run mid-way through the second half to escape with the hard-fought victory.
EMU's athleticism and speed kept the contest close, as the Eagles blocked two shots and forced 18 turnovers. The Green and White fell behind by 13 points in the first half before EMU rallied back to pull within a point late in the frame. In the second half, EMU again used tenacious defense to open the second half and knot the score at 28 with 19:22 to go. However, a 10-1 run ensued for Ohio State to push the edge back to nine points, 38-29, as Eastern was unable to get any closer than five points the rest of the way.
Junior guard Tavelyn James had 18 points, including 12 after halftime, for the Eagles and senior De'Ja Wills added 11 off the bench. Senior Cassie Schrock notched six to pull within one point of the 1,000 career point plateau.

THE KIDS CAN PLAY: The average 2010-11 EMU women's basketball player stands 5-feet-10 inches tall and is 20 years and 146 days old. The youngest Eagle is Olivia Fouty, who turned 18, June 28, 2010. Kristin Thomas is the oldest Eagle having turning 22, June 25, 2010.

GILBERT VERSUS THE BIG TEN: For the second time since Head Coach AnnMarie Gilbert's arrival, the Eagles took on a team from the Big Ten Conference. EMU is 10-36 all-time versus the Park Ridge, Ill. based conference, but the Green and White are 4-7 against Big Ten foes since the 2000-01 campaign. During that span, Eastern Michigan has posted wins over Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Northwestern, with losses coming against Purdue, Illinois, Indiana, MSU and OSU.
