KALAMAZOO, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Despite a pair of Eagles posting double figures in kills, the Eastern Michigan University dropped its regular season finale 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 14-25, 23-25) to instate rival Western Michigan University Saturday evening, Nov. 13, here at the University Arena. Senior Jenn Swartz (Canton, Mich.-Westland John Glenn) led all EMU players with 13 kills and six block assists on the night.

With the victory the Broncos up their record to 22-8 and 12-4 in the Mid-American Conference, while the Eagles drop to 23-10 and 10-6 in league action.

Now with the regular season complete the Eagles know they will be the No. 5 seed in the upcoming MAC Volleyball Tournament and will face No. 12 Bowling Green State University Tuesday, Nov. 16, at the Convocation Center. Tuesday's first round match will also be video streamed on Eagle All-Access.

No. 1 Ball State University, No. 2 Ohio University, No. 3 Northern Illinois University and No. 3 Western Michigan earned the automatic berths into the quarterfinal round Friday, Nov. 19, at the SeaGate Center in Toledo, Ohio.

Sophomore Rachel Iaquaniello (Plymouth, Mich.-Dearborn Divine Child) finished with her 11th double-double of the season, posting 19 digs and 12 kills on the night. Freshman Erin Short (Orrville, Ohio-Orrville) chipped in seven kills and three blocks assists for the Eagles, who hit just .132 as a team.

WMU's Jessica Brown led all attackers on the night with 22 put-a-ways and also hit a game-high .439. Additionally, Allyson Doyle was one kill away from a double-double but settled for nine kills and 24 digs.

The Broncos took the first set 25-23 after going back-and-forth with the Eagles. The set featured 11 lead changes until a kill by Sam Viox gave the Broncos a 21-20 lead that WMU held on to for good. Doyle finished off the Eagles with a kill after EMU had rallied to bring the Eagles back within one, 24-23.

In the second set Western Michigan got out to a 6-0 run to take the lead. The Eagles chipped away at first before going on a 6-0 run of their own to eventually take the lead 11-10. The teams traded points until the 15-15 mark when the Green and White strung together two straight points to take a 17-15 lead. Western cut the lead to one, but the Eagles were able to extend their lead to 19-16. Eastern would take its biggest edge of the night at four point, 21-17, and cruise to the 25-19 set victory.

Eastern Michigan built an early 4-1 lead to open the third set but the Broncos responded with a 9-0 run to take the lead 10-4. Western Michigan extended its lead to 20-7, its largest of the set. EMU cut the lead to 20-11, but could not get any closer as WMU took the 2-1 lead in the match.

The final set mirrored the first with the two teams exchanging leads and ties until the Broncos took an 11-10 lead that they would never relinquish en route to the 25-23 decision.
