Jacob Hanson leads Eagles with two first place performances

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team dropped a non-conference match up this evening against Big Ten opponent Purdue, 108-187.

The Eagles were led by two first place finishes by Jacob Hanson (Bloomington, Ill-Normal Community),  who posted winning times of 1:48.58 in the 200 Backstroke and 1:52.49 in the 200 Individual Medley.

Troy Esentan (North Little Rock, Ark.-Central) also shined for the Green and White this evening, starting with his third place efforts in the 100 breaststroke posting a time of 59.20. He later improved in the 200 breaststroke as he was first to touch the wall at 2:07.10. Not too far behind was teammate Michael Swain  (Ann Arbor, Mich.-Univ. of Michigan) who took third in 2:09.16.

In the 100 butterfly, the 2010 Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Year, Justin Griggs (Cheltenham, Australia-Australian Catholic University), earned first place after completing the event in 51.11. Griggs also faired well in the 50 freestyle when he was third to finish in 21.45. Griggs later collaborated with teammates Matt Zavislak (Commerce Twp., Mich.-Walled Lake Northern), August Everson (Sandusky, Ohio-Sandusky), and Dexter Foos (Fremont, Ohio-Fremont-Ross) for a first place performance in the 200 freestyle relay.

On the boards, Jeffrey Craig (Kent, Ohio-Field) posted 334.28 points en route to his second place finish in the three-meter dive. Craig was also the top diver for the Eagles in the one-meter event (279.53).

The Eagles will return to action when they host the Eastern Michigan Invitational on Dec. 3 at 3:30 p.m. The two day invite will feature teams from Bowling Green, Wayne State, Findlay, Michigan State, Waterloo, Toledo, Michigan, IUPUI, and Ball State.
