Eagles Sink The Cardinals In Season Opener

EMU extends MAC dual-meet win streak to 57 this afternoon

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team extended their Mid-American Conference dual-meet win streak to 57 this afternoon after they defeated Ball State 174-118 in their season opener at Jones Natatorium.
Matt Zavislak (Commerce Twp., Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) led the Eagles with two first place finishes on the afternoon. He was first to touch the wall in the 200 freestyle at 1:44.78, and he was also the top finisher in the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.21.
Ricky Linder (Cypress, Texas-Cy-Woods) also faired well, winning the 1,000 freestyle posting a time of 9:47.70. Teammate Gilles Renard (Huy, Belgium-Athenee Royal de Huy) followed in second place at 10:01.81. Linder later took second in the 500 freestyle behind Dylan Kab's (Raleigh, N.C.-Athens Drive Senior) first place efforts of 4:46.87.
Justin Duong (Saline, Mich.-Saline) led the way in the 100 freestyle, clinching first place with a finish time of 51:55. In second was Justin Griggs (Cheltenham, Australia-Australian Catholic University) who followed with a time of 52.36.
EMU featured two impressive performances on the boards as well. Mitch Kellerman (Erlanger, Ky.-St. Henry) took first in the three-meter diving event for the Green and White after scoring 330.30 points. Sophomore Jeffrey Craig (Kent, Ohio-Field) clinched second place with 321.53.
The men's swimming and diving squad will return to action when they head to Purdue on Nov. 12. The meet is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
