OXFORD, Ohio (EMUEagles.com)
– It was a one-sided affair other than what the scoreboard read at the end of regulation and two overtimes, but the Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team managed to weather a high-powered Miami University offense and secure a satisfying, 1-1, draw in a cross-divisional match on the road at Miami Soccer Field, Sunday, Oct. 3.

The Eagles were out-shot, 25-15, and earned just three corner kicks to Miami's 12, but were still in position for a win late in regulation after Cara Cutaia (Burlington, Ontario-Notre Dame Catholic) scored her first career goal in the 37th minute to give EMU a first half, 1-0, lead. The defense held stout until the 87th minute when the host RedHawks pounded in the equalizer, one that would hold through two overtimes.

As a result, the Eagles move to 5-5-3 overall, 2-0-2 in MAC play while the RedHawks move to 9-3-1 (2-1-1 MAC).

The redshirt freshman, Cutaia, was able to spring free for a header after freshman Stephanie Clarke's (London, Ontario-St. Thomas Aquinas) corner kick service proved to be right on the money. The assist marked the third straight contest that Clarke has recorded a point, bringing her season total to a team-high 11 (3 G, 5 A).

The 1-0 Eagle lead would carry through the intermission and as late as the 87th minute until Miami's Brooke Livingston found the back of the net in similar fashion to that of Cutaia's, with a header off a corner kick.

Heading into the first overtime, it seemed like the RedHawks had gained the momentum, but EMU senior goalkeeper Monique Budani (Whitby, Ontario-Sinclair) turned aside two Miami shots and then one more with just four seconds remaining in the second overtime to secure the tie. For the game, Budani had 11 saves and helped snap the Eagles' two-game skid against Miami while keeping her squad unbeaten in league play and for the fourth straight contest.

EMU will be back in action Friday, Oct. 9, for another cross-divisional meeting against the Kent State University Flashes in Kent, Ohio. The match is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
