BEALLSVILLE, Md. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team is tied with the University of Maryland in third place after two rounds of action at the Georgetown Intercollegiate Monday, Oct. 18. The Eagles recorded a score of one-under par 567 (294-273), and is eight shots behind the leader Campbell at The Members Club at Four Streams.
Junior Zach MacDougall (Coquitlam, British Columbia-Centennial) is tied with two others for the individual lead at five-under par 137. He fired an even-par 71 in the morning and followed it up by equaling the course record with a five-under par 66 in the afternoon. Freshman Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) is also in contention as he is three shots back in a tie for eighth at two-under 140 (73-67) .
Senior Nick Carbary (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Mattawan) is in 32nd place with a 146 (78-68) and freshman Jared Dalga (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Forest Hills Central) shot a 148 (76-72) for a 44th place tie. Senior Adam Winwood (Epping, Essex, UK-St. Johns-South Mountain CC) rounded out the lineup in 51st place with a 149 (74-75).
The No. 25-ranked Camels shot an even-par 284 in the first round and followed that up with a 275 in the afternoon round and hold a six-shot lead on Miami (Ohio), in second at 3-under par 565. Two other teams are under-par after two rounds, with Maryland and Eastern Michigan tied for third place at 1-under par 567. UNC-Greensboro is fifth at one-over par 569, with Xavier sixth at two-over par 570 and Richmond and William & Mary tied for seventh at five-over par 573.
Detroit-Mercy stands in eighth at eight-over par 574 and host Georgetown is 10th of 12 teams at 17-over par 585.
The first day of play was held under sunny and clear skies in the morning and some cloudy conditions with a brief period of rain in the afternoon. One year after there were only nine even- or under-par scores in the entire tournament, the first day of play saw 53 even- or under-par rounds among the 72 golfers.
Play concludes on Tuesday with 18 holes, beginning at approximately 8 a.m.
