AKRON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Competing against some of the nation's elite teams, the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team again showed that it can hold its own on the links. Head Coach Bruce Cunningham's crew finished in fourth place with a 54-hole total of 868 (286-292-290) Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 12, at the Firestone Invitational. The nation's 36th ranked team, Indiana University, managed a one-stoke victory over 34th ranked Notre Dame on the 7,087 yard, par-71 Firestone Country Club North Course .

Behind the Hooisers and Fighting Irish, 37th-ranked New Mexico State University captured a third place showing with an 867 and EMU claimed fourth. David Erdy of Indiana and John Popeck of Maryland shared medalist honors. The Eagles also finished on top of ranked foe No. 39 Xavier.

Senior Nick Carbary (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Mattawan) was the top individual for the Eagles, earning a tie for seventh place with a one-under par 215 (71-74-70). Carbary's' finish was his third career top 10 showing in 21 career tournaments. Additionally, his two rounds under-par marked the fourth-time this fall he has shot par-or better.

Freshman Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) turned in a 10th place finish with a 216 (72-73-71). Freshman Jared Dalga (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Forest Hills Central) tied for 14th with a cumulative total of 217 (68-72-77). Rounding out the lineup, junior Zach MacDougall (Coquitlam, British Columbia-Centennial) and sophomore Bradley Altenhoff (Oakville, Ontario-White Oaks Secondary) finished 22nd and 68th, respectively.

Playing as an individual, sophomore Casey Olsen (Okemos, Mich.-Okemos-Oakland University) fired rounds of 77, 76 and 79 for a 232 in 65th place.

Cunningham's crew closes out the fall campaign Oct. 18-19 at the Hoya Intercollegiate in Beallsville, Md.
