Charlie Box Named MAC Men’s Golfer of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- Charlie Box, a junior on the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team, has been name the Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week, the league announced today, Oct. 3. Box was honored in a vote of the conference's coaches following his solid play at the inaugural Jim DeLapa Collegiate, Sept. 28-29.

Box (Leicester, England/Wreake Valley Academy/Hutchinson CC), the top placer among all MAC players in the tournament that included host Central Michigan University and Northern Illinois University, was the top finisher for the Eagles as he entered the third round in 16th before climbing nine spots to finish in a tie for seventh place at 4-under 206 (69-70-67), his lowest score in four events with the program and tied for fifth-best in EMU history. Playing on a par-70 course, Box shot at or below par in all three rounds to post his lowest 54-hole score as a member of the program after twice shooting 203 with Hutchinson CC in the previous two seasons. His second time recording a top-10 finish for the Eagles, Box' final-round 67 helped the team shoot even-par 280 for the 17th-lowest team round in program history while helping the team to a total of 848, the sixth-lowest 54-hole team score in EMU history.

Box and the Eagles are back in action Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 6-7, when they travel to Estero, Fla., for the West Bay Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University, at West Bay Club.
