YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team closes out its longest homestand of the 2010 season this weekend with a pair of Mid-American Conference cross-divisional matches at the Convocation Center. EMU hosts Miami University Friday, Oct. 15, before battling Bowling Green State University Saturday, Oct. 16, in the annual Dig Pink fundraiser. First serve for both matches is scheduled for 7 p.m.

OFF TO A SIZZLING START: The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team is off to a sensational start to the 2010 campaign with a 17-6 record, that includes winning 58 of its 84 sets played. EMU's 17-6 start is the program's best since the 2003 campaign when the Green and White notched an 18-5 record through its first 23 matches. The 4-2 start to Mid-American Conference play is also the squad's best since the 2005 season.

EASTERN PREPS FOR MAC EAST FOES: With six conference matches under their belt, the Eagles switch to cross-divisional play for five of the next six matches versus the East Division. Following the Ohio contest, EMU returns exclusively to MAC West to close out the 2010 regular season.

EMU LOOKS TO END A FIVE-MATCH DROUGHT VERSUS MIAMI: On Friday, Oct. 15, the Eagles will be looking to end a five-match losing skid to the RedHawks, dating back to the 2006 campaign, when Miami notched a 3-0 decision at the Convocation Center, Oct. 12. Last season, MU rolled to a 3-0 victory in Oxford, Ohio, Oct. 17, 2009. EMU's last win over Miami was a 3-0 road sweep, Oct. 14, 2005, at Millett Hall.

EAGLES AND FALCONS MEET FOR THE 50TH TIME: Eastern Michigan and Bowling Green are hooking up for the 50th meeting in the all-time series Saturday night at the Convocation Center. The Falcons hold a 28-21 edge in the series, including posting a 3-2 victory in the final meeting at venerable Anderson Arena in Bowling Green, Ohio, Oct. 16, 2009. Eastern's last win over BGSU occurred Nov. 18, 2005, in the Quarterfinal Round of the MAC Tournament at the SeaGate Centre in Toledo, Ohio.

HOME SWEET HOME: The Green and White have enjoyed the friendly confines of the EMU Convocation Center over the past 10 seasons, posting a 68-36 mark in the “Nest,” including four home victories this season.

TIED FOR THE LARGEST TURNAROUND IN SCHOOL HISTORY: The 12-game improvement from five wins in 2009 to the 17 victories this season is tied for the biggest in school history. The previous standard of a 12-game turnaround came during the 1990 campaign, when the Eagles went from 18 victories to 30 wins, and again in 2001, when EMU went from seven wins to 19. The 1993 team posted a 10-game improvement and the 1999 squad finished with a nine-game improvement.

STEIN DIGS HER WAY TO HER SECOND MAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR: For the second time in five weeks, junior libero Haley Stein was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday, Oct. 11. Stein broke the school-record for digs after recording 55 against Western Michigan, Oct. 8. The mark is also tied for fourth-most digs in NCAA Division I history in a five-set match. The previous EMU standard was set by Ashley Cudney Oct. 7, 2006, in a match against Northern Illinois University when she recorded 50. The 55 digs are also the most nationally since McNeese State University's Jessica Strama set the NCAA record of 62 against Texas-Arlington, Oct. 13, 2006. Stein also posted 27 digs versus IPFW, Oct. 5, and 26 versus Northern Illinois, Oct. 9.

TRIO POSTS RECORD-SETTING PERFORMANCES IN 3-2 WIN OVER WESTERN: It was a record-setting night for the Eagles versus instate rival Western Michigan, Oct. 8, at the Convocation Center. Eastern was paced offensively by sophomore outside hitter Rachel Iaquaniello, who set a Convocation Center record with 33 kills in the contest. It was also the fourth-highest total recorded by an EMU player, the most in a game for an EMU player in more than 12 years and the highest total by a player in the MAC since 2006.
In addition to Iaquaniello's record-setting day, junior libero Haley Stein broke a school-record by recording 55 digs, which is tied for fourth-most digs in NCAA Division I history in a five-set match. The previous school record was set by Ashley Cudney Oct. 7, 2006, in a match against Northern Illinois University when she recorded 50. Ashley Mason did not let the record-setting day elude her as she tallied 68 assists, the best total in the MAC this season and the third-most in Convocation Center history. Three Eagles posted double-doubles as Iaquaniello added 18 digs to her 33 kills, Mason put up 20 digs with her 68 assists, and Paige Roback finished with 12 digs and 12 kills.

UNITED WE GO PINK: Green is the typical EMU color, however Saturday, Oct. 16, the color of choice will be pink as the Eagles try to “Dig Pink” to support Breast Cancer Awareness against Bowling Green State University. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Convocation Center. Over the past three seasons, EMU Volleyball has raised over $12,000 for breast cancer research. All proceeds from the event will once again go to support the Side-Out Foundation. Leading up to the event, fans can make donations online. Donations will also be accepted at the match and will include the opportunity to bid on silent auction items, as well as purchase “Dig Pink” t-shirts and mini-volleyballs. All fans will receive a pink silly-band in the form of a breast cancer ribbon upon entering the arena. To date, over $4,000 has been raised during this year's campaign, highlighted by a $2,500 donation from the EMU men's basketball team and head coach Charles E. Ramsey.

YOUTH MOVEMENT: Head Coach Kim Berrington has relied heavily on underclassmen with freshmen and sophomores accounting for 76.3 percent of the squad's kills, 59.5 percent of its blocks and 71.8 percent of its points.

KEEP 'EM DOWN: Just 15 teams have hit better than .100 against the Eagles this season and only six teams have hit better than .200. Eastern Michigan ranks third in the Mid-American Conference with an opponent hitting percentage of .157.
