AKRON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team resides in fourth place at the Firestone Invitational hosted by the University of Akron at the par 72, 7,087 yard Firestone Country Club. The Eagles turned in an 36-hole team score of 578 (286-292) while the University of Notre Dame and Indiana University are tied atop the leader board after the first day of competition with a 564.
Freshman Jared Dalga (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Forest Hills Central) is in fifth place with a four-under 140 (68-72). Senior Nick Carbary (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Mattawan) and freshman Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) are tied for 21st place with a 145. Junior Zach MacDougall (Coquitlam, British Columbia-Centennial) shot a 148 (75-73) for a 37th place tied and sophomore Bradley Altenhoff (Oakville, Ontario-White Oaks Secondary) is tied for 65th with a 157 (77-80).
Playing as an individual, sophomore Casey Olsen (Okemos, Mich.-Okemos-Oakland University) fired rounds of 77 and 76 for a 153 in 54th place.
Indiana's David Erdy is the individual leader with a nine-under 135 (70-65), two strokes ahead of UND's Niall Platt.
The Fireston Invitational concludes Tuesday, Oct. 12, an 8:30 a.m. start time.
