ANN ARBOR,, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - Day two of the Harvey-Simmons Invitational went well for the Eastern Michigan University Men's track team as the squad earned four first-place finishes and hit one NCAA Provisional Qualifier mark, Jan 23., to wrap up the two-day invite.
Clint Allen (Muskegon, Mich.-Orchard View), although finishing second in his race, posted a season-best time of 6.70 seconds to post an NCAA Provisional Qualifier mark. The time also stands tied as the eighth-best time in the nation this year. Nathan Blackwell (Kalamazoo, Mich.-Kalamazoo Central) gave his best effort in the 600-meter, winning the race with a time of 1:21.14. Curtis Vollmar (Grand Blanc, Mich.-Grand Blanc) and David Brent (Monroe, Mich.-St. Mary's) also earned wins in the mile run and the 800-meter run, respectively. The Eagles fourth first-place finish was gained in the 4x400-meter relay.
On the first day of competition, Andrew Meyer (Minster, Ohio-Minster) used a hammer throw of 55-03.00 feet to snag second place, then also nabbed a second place finish in the shot put with a launch of 52-03.75. Senior Oliver Walther (Erfurt, Germany/Pierre-de-Coubertin Gymnasium), fresh off capturing the Mid-American Conference Male Athlete of the Week and consecutive Scholar Athlete of the Week honors, finished second in the long jump after leaping 22-09.25.
The Eagles will be back in action Saturday, Jan. 30, at the Central Michgan Open.
