YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan women's soccer team enters this weekend with a 4-1-1 record, marking a successful non-conference portion of the schedule so far. The Eagles will welcome in IUPUI Friday and Michigan State Sunday in their final preparation prior to MAC play.

ABOUT THE JAGUARS: IUPUI is coming off a regular season Summit League title in 2008 after finishing 13-7 overall, 7-1 in league play and were picked to finish third out of 10 teams by Summit League Coaches in a preseason poll. The Jaguars return 10 starters from a team that set a school record for wins last year and since dropping their first two games to start this season, have now rattled off four straight wins. Megan Hock leads the team with four goals scored while goalkeeper Jamie Farrell has turned in three shutouts thus far this year. In last year's meeting between the Eagles and Jaguars, Chelsea Detrick stunned the home crowd in Indianapolis with a go-ahead goal in the 90th minute, leaving less than one second to spare and giving Eastern Michigan the win.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS: Picked to finish second in the Big Ten this season, Michigan State is off to a running start at 5-0-1 through its first six games of 2009. The Spartans had high expectations heading into this season after reaching the second round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament, falling to then undefeated Notre Dame, 1-0. All-American Laura Heyboer returns after scoring 21 goals last season and was named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List, which recognizes the top women's soccer player in the nation. Through six games, the Spartans boast a 17-2 goal differential in their favor. Lauren Hill leads the team with eight goals while Heyboer isn't far behind with four. Jill Flietstra has three shutouts for the Spartans in goal.

LAST TIME OUT: The Eagles went to Richmond, Va. to take part in the VCU/Impact Sports Invitational Tournament and came away with a pair of victories. Friday night, Ashley Rodrigues scored her second goal of the season in the 31st minute against Richmond and it held. Maggie Manville made six saves for her second consecutive shutout and second win of the year. Carissa Wilson highlighted a 5-0 rout of Loyola College (Md.) on Sunday. The senior scored her first career hat trick and stretch the Eagles' unbeaten streak to three games.

WILSON SCORES HAT TRICK:
Carissa Wilson turned in her first career hat trick in the Eagles', 5-0, win over Loyola College (Md.) Sept. 13. They were her first goals of the season and nearly doubled her career total which now stands at eight. Wilson contributed in the biggest offensive outburst for the Eagles since Sept. 26, 2008 when they defeated Miami (OH), 5-0, in the MAC season opener.

ATOP THE MAC: As of Sept. 14, the Eagles stood atop the MAC standings with a 4-1-1 record. They led all MAC teams in shots per game (17.83), goals (10), goals per game (1.67) and shutouts (4). EMU was second in assists (9) and points (29), and third in saves (35) and goals allowed (5).

SHUTOUT STREAK: The Eagles have recorded three consecutive shutouts spanning over 290 minutes entering their match with IUPUI, Sept. 18. It's their longest such streak of holding opponents scoreless since they strung together four games between Oct. 19-28, 2007, holding opponents scoreless for 373 minutes to equal two shutouts and three wins. The one game they lost was, 1-0, to Northern Illinois on a goal scored in the 89th minute of regulation.
