Peters Record Top 10 Showing at Fossum Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University junior Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) continued her strong play with a third consecutive top-10 showing, turning in a 10th place finish at the Mary Fossum Invitational here at the par 72, 6,348-yard Forest Akers West Golf Course, Sept. 12-13.

Competing against some of the region's best golfers, the Lake Orion, Mich. native carded a 73 in the final round to finish with a 220 (75-72-73), the equalling her career-best 54 hole score set last fall at Zippy Invitational, Sept. 29-30, 2008.

As a team, the Eagles finished ninth with a team score of 922 (306-307-309) as host Michigan State University took home the invitational hardware with an 875 (289-293-293). James Madison University's Nicole Sakamoto captured medalist honors with a two-under 214 (75-69-70).

Junior Stephanie Bevington (Ossosso, Mich.-Owosso) gave the Eagles another player among the top 40, after carding a 78 to finish tied for 37th with a 232 (76-78-78). Junior Robyn Scott (Auckland, New Zealand -Westlake Girls-Texas Tech Univ.) followed with a 236 (75-82-79) while senior Marjorie Thuot (Joliette, Ouebec-Therese-Martin) turned in a 238 (80-77-81) for 54th. Freshman Emily Podzielinski (Noblesville, Ind.-Noblesville) rounded out the lineup with a 243 (84-80-79) for 67th place.

The Eagles are next in action Sept. 19-20 at the Cardinal Classic in Yorktown, Ind..
