CLEVELAND, Ohio—The Eastern Michigan University men's and women's track and field program had 14 athletes named to the 2009 All-Mid-American Conference Outdoor track and field teams as announced by the league office Friday, May 22.

Recording first team honors were senior thrower Gerald Gersham (Southfield, Mich.-Southfield), who won the shot put; senior Josh Karanja (Ottawa, Canada-Nepean) who placed first in the steeplechase; and senior Josh Perrin (Hillsdale, Mich.-Hillsdale) who won the 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs. Two student-athletes from the men's team were named second team All-MAC including Blake Figgins (Detroit, Mich.-Mumford) in the 800 meters and Xavier Clais (Paris, France) in the high jump.

For the women's squad, who is under the leadership of third-year head coach Sue Parks, improved to an eighth place finish at the championship, recording 50 of its 53 points on the third and final day of the meet. Sophomore Beverly Elcock (Ft. Wayne, Ind.-Northrop) was named first team All-MAC squad after winning the 800 meters in dramatic fashion.

Elcock teamed up with Shantavia Williams (Homestead, Fla.-South Dade), Shade St. Louis (Kansas City, Mo.-Kansas City CC) and Christina Farrow (Detroit, Mich.-Renaissance) to add another eight points to the Eagles' total by finishing second in the 4x400-meter relay, running 3:46.44, and earned second team All-MAC honors.
