YPSILANTI, Mich. -- 
The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team will compete at the 2009 Mid-American Conference Championship Thursday through Saturday, April 30-May2, at The Brickyard Crossing Golf Course in Indianapolis, Ind. The four-day, 72-hole event, will be played at 6,994 yards and to a par-72 for the nine MAC schools which sponsor men's golf – Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Miami, Northern Illinois, Ohio and Toledo.

The tournament, which is hosted by Ball State State University, will feature 36 holes Thursday, 18 holes Friday and the final 18 holes Saturday. The event is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. each day. The tournament is open to the public and admission is free.

Eastern Michigan enters this year's championship as the two-time defending MAC Champion. Last year's event came down to the last shot of the tournament before a winner could be crowned at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. With Eastern trailing by one shot heading into the final threesome of the tournament, the Eagles' Peter Sauerbrei completed his round with a par on the par four 18th. His Kent State opponent, David Ludlow, then missed a bogey putt and had to settle for a six to give Eastern Michigan the one-stroke victory, 1171-1172.



MEN'S GOLF RANKED 77TH BY GOLFSTAT: The latest Golfstat rankings show the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team ranked 77th nationally according to publications web site. The Eagles are the second highest ranked team from the Mid-American Conference, trailing only Kent State University at 44th place. Miami University is ranked 114th, Ball State University follows in 126th and Northern Illinois University comes in 151st. The University of Toledo (162nd), Bowling Green State University (170th), Ohio (180th) and the University of Akron (ranking not available) round of the MAC's member rankings.  

MEN'S GOLF RANKED 73RD BY GOLFWEEK/SAGARIN POLL: The latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings show the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team ranked 73rd nationally according to publications website. EMU is currently 27-49-1 versus top 100 schools and 85-53-2 overall.

IMPORTANT TOURNAMENT REMINDER: Saturday, May 2, is the Indy 500 Mini-Marathon and the main entrance to the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course will be closed at 7 a.m.
