Eagles sit in second place following 36-holes with a 640

NASHPORT, Ohio – With 36 holes in the books at the 2009 Mid-American Conference Championship, the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team sits in second place with a 640 (333-307). Kent State University leads the way after posting a 613 (304-309) at the par 72, 6,147 yard Longaberger Golf Club.
The Golden Flashes hold a 27-stroke lead heading into day two, that total includes holding down four of the tournament's top six slots. EMU is in second place with a score of 640, followed by Western Michigan (654), Akron (655), Ball State (665), Toledo (665), Ohio (682), Northern Illinois (698) and Bowling Green (716).
Individually, KSU's Mercedes Germino has a commanding lead four-over 143 (73-75) followed by teammates Kirby Dreher in second place with a 155 (79-76). Four student-athletes are tied for third with a 12-over par 156.
All five Eagles are ranked in the top 22 included sophomore Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) who carded a 158 (83-75) to reside in seventh place. Seniors Stephany Fleet (Dewitt. Mich.-Dewitt) and Courtney Aili (Chelsea, Mich.-Chelsea) are tied for eighth with a 159. Sophomore Stephanie Bevington (Ossosso, Mich.-Owosso) notched a 165 (83-82) for a 15th place tie and junior Marjorie Thuot (Joliette, Ouebec-Therese-Martin) added a 169 (88-81) to move into a tie for 24th.
The third round of the 2009 MAC Women's Golf Championship will get underway at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 25, with the final round scheduled for Sunday, April 26, at 8 a.m. For live scoring, visit http://www.golfstat.com
