Men's Golf Takes Sixth Place at Boilermaker Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team concluded play Sunday, April 19, with a cumulative score of 876 at the Boilermaker Invitational. The Eagles used a third round score of 292 after shooting a 282 and 299 in rounds one and two. EMU finished in sixth place in the field of 18 at the par-72, 7,465-yard Kampen Course on the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.
Illinois won the tournament with a score of 855. After two rounds of play, Penn State was leading, however, the Illini used a 284 final round to finish one stroke better than the Nittany Lions. Kevin Foley of Penn State and Dan Woltman of Wisconsin shared medalist honors with scores of 207. Woltman used a final round low-score of 67 to move into a tie with Foley who shot a final round 72.
Junior Cam Burke (Baden, Ontario-Waterloo Secondary) led the Eagles with a score of one-over 217 (68-75-74) in a tied for 12th place. Junior Marty Jeppesen (Saline, Mich.-Saline) finished the tournament with a 218 (72-76-70) in a tie for 16th while sophomore Brad Larente (Cambridge, Ontario-Hespeler Secondary) finished with a 219 (70-74-75) in 23rd. Rounding out the lineup, junior Brandon Lemons (Portage, Mich.-Portage Central) and senior Christopher Ross (Dundas, Ontario-Parkside) posted a 224 (72-77-75) and a 227 (75-74-78), respectively.
Next up for the head coach Bruce Cunningham and the Eagles is the 2009 Mid-American Conference Championship, April 30-May 2, at Brickyard Golf Course in Indianapolis, Ind. Ball State University will be the host for the conference championship and live scoring can be found at www.golfstat.com.
