Men's Golf in Fourth Place after First Day of Boilermaker Invitational

Junior Cam Burke tied for eighth heading into the final round

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – After firing an opening round 282 at the Boilermaker Invitational, the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team turned in a 299 to finish the opening day with a cumulative score of 581 in fourth place. The tournament is being hosted by Purdue University at the par-72, 7,162-yard Kampen Course on the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.
Junior Cam Burke (Baden, Ontario-Waterloo Secondary) led the Eagles with a score of one-under 143 (68-75). Burke, who is tied for 8th, shot a four-under 68 in round one and a three-over 75 in round two. Sophomore Brad Larente (Cambridge, Ontario-Hespeler Secondary) is tied for 12th with an even-par 144 . Junior Marty Jeppesen (Saline, Mich.-Saline) finished the day with a 148 (72-76) while senior Christopher Ross (Dundas, Ontario-Parkside) and junior Brandon Lemons (Portage, Mich.-Portage Central) both notched scores of 149.
Penn State sits atop the leader board with a 36 hole score of seven-under 569 (288-281). The Hoosiers of Indiana came into the tournament as the ninth ranked team in the nation but struggled into 11th place at the end of two rounds. Kevin Foley of Penn State leads the tournament with a score of nine-under par 135. Foley used a tournament-low round of 66 in round two.
Tomorrow's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m.
