Eagles Finish Third At EKU Spring Invitational; Fleet Falls In Playoff For Medalist Honors

RICHMOND, Ky. – Senior Stephany Fleet (Dewitt, Mich.-Dewitt) came up short in a playoff against Toledo's Georgina Hunt to take second, while the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team finished in third place Sunday, April 12, at the EKU Spring Invitational. Eastern Kentucky played host to the tournament, April 11-12, at the par 72, 5,817-yard Arlington Golf Club in Richmond, Ky.

After holding a one shot lead entering the final round, Fleet shot a three-over 75 during Sunday's final round to finish with a 223 (75-73-75) in a tie for first with UT's Georgina Hunt (75-74-74). Hunt bested Fleet on the first hole of the sudden-death playoff to capture individual medalist honors. For Fleet, the runner-up finish marks her seventh consecutive top five finish and her17th career top five showing.

EMU shot a 310 in the final round to finish in third place with a three-round total of 923 (314-299-310). The Rockets of Toledo won the 18-team invitational, carding a 295 on the final day to win by seven shots with a 54 hole total of 912 (306-311-295). Central Arkansas (919), EMU, Richmond (933) and Murray State (942) rounded out the top five teams.

In addition to Fleet, three other Eagles finished in the top 20. Sophomore Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) recorded her third career top five finish after tying for third place with a 230 (78-75-77). Senior Courtney Aili (Chelsea, Mich.-Chelsea) notched her eighth career top 10 showing with a 231 (80-72-79) in a tie for eighth place. Competing as individual, sophomore Stephanie Bevington (Ossosso, Mich.-Owosso) turned in her best collegiate showing, after placing 17th with a 234 (78-75-81).

Rounding out the roster, junior Marjorie Thuot (Joliette, Ouebec-Therese-Martin) carded a 239 (81-79-79) for 35th place and sophomore Lina Pasquali (Kendallville, Ind.-East Noble) fired a 246(81-83-82) for a 60th place tie.

Next up for the Eagles is the 2009 Mid-American Conference Championship, April 24-26, at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. Kent State University will be the host for the conference championship and live scoring can be found at
