Box Score.

LORAIN
, OhioThe Eastern Michigan University baseball team dropped a high-scoring affair Wednesday afternoon, April 1, as the Eagles fell, 10-7, to the Vikings of Cleveland State University at the Pipe Yard in Lorain, Ohio.

The loss drops EMU to 4-22 this season, while CSU improves to 7-15 with the win.

Junior Jim Gulliver (Allen Park, Mich.-Allen Park) had a solid day at the plate for the Eagles, going 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and one run scored, while Cleveland State's Josh Hungerman went 4-for-5 with two homers, including a grand slam, and eight RBI to lead the Vikings.

Gulliver wasted no time getting the Eagles on the scoreboard, as his one-out, two-run homer over the wall in left center gave EMU an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first.

The Vikings answered back in the bottom half of the inning, as a grand slam over the center field wall by Hungerman put CSU ahead, 4-2. The Vikings tacked on one more in the bottom of the third to take a 5-2 lead. Hungerman extended CSU's lead to seven in the bottom of the fourth, as his two-out, three-run homer gave the Vikings a 9-2 advantage.

Freshman Johnny Crooks (Toledo, Ohio-Ottawa Hills) started EMU's rally in the top of the sixth, as his double to the gap in right center plated junior Andrew Marshall (Mason, Mich.-Mason) to make it a 9-3 game and forced CSU head coach Kevin Kocks to pull starter Sam Suitca in favor of reliever Nate Dick. An RBI single to center by senior Kyle Rhoad (Fostoria, Ohio-Elmwood), coupled with a pair of CSU errors paved the way for three more runs, making it a 9-6 game.

But Hungerman would again extend CSU's lead, as his RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the sixth scored Kyle Shaffer from third to make it a 10-6 game.

The Eagles put one more run across the plate in the top of the eighth, but the CSU pitching staff held the Eagles' bats at bay for the remainder of the contest.

The Eagles are back at home this weekend for a Mid-American Conference cross-divisional series with the University of Akron, April 3-5, at Oestrike Stadium. Game one is scheduled for Friday, April 3, at 6:05 p.m., while Saturday and Sunday are scheduled for 3:05 p.m. and 1:05 p.m., respectively. EMU leads the all-time series against Akron, 23-13, including a 2-1 mark against the Zips last season.
