After the Zips put one run on the board in the top of the first, the Eagles answered with a three-run inning after capitalizing on a pair of Akron errors to take a 3-1 lead.
Skirving extended EMU's lead to four in the bottom of the fifth, as his two-run homer over the right field wall scored sophomore Zack Leonard (Canton, Ohio-McKinley) to give the Eagles a 5-1 lead.
The Zips pulled within two in the top of the ninth, as Kevin Wammes gave up an RBI single through the left side by Kevin Haas to make it a 6-4 game. But Wammes came back to strike out Brandon White with two runners on base to give EMU the win and earn the save, his first of the season.
